Vaginal Prolapse in SheeP

Vaginal prolapse occurs in different forms
u*Lttg various stages. Vaginal prolapse has
been described in all domestic species (Roberts,
1971). This paper deals with vaginal prolapse in
Madras red sheeP.
Case History and Observations

bw was given daily for 5 days. A singie dose C
Duraprojan 10mg was given i/m. Suture was re-
moved after a week of treatment and no relap*
was noticed.

A two years old aduit pregnant (4th month)
Madras red ewe at Livestock Research Station,
Kattupakkam, Tamil Nadu showed symptom of
frequent straining and vaginatr inass protruding
out from vulva. Clinical examinatiern revealed
that the entire circumference of the r"agina had
prolapsed to an extent of 3 inches out of vuiva'
The prolapsed vaginal mucous rnembrane was
oedematous, soft and pink in colour. Neither ne-
crotic nor severe inflammation could be noticed
on the surface of the prolapsed mass'
has been claimed that estrogen inin.

ates relaxation of pelvic ligament, oedema d
privaginal tissue and reduces relaxation C
vulvar and periwulvar spincter muscle (Robert's-
Ioc.cit).

Treatment and Discussion

This case was treated as per the routine proce-
dure. The vulva and the perivulvai area were
thoroughly cleaned with potassium permanga-
nate solution and the protruded proiapsed mass
was cleaned with the help of normal saline' The
ice cubes were applied over it and gently mas-
saged to reduce swelling. Lignocaine hydrochlo-
ride gelly was applied over the protruded mass'
Then the proiapsed mass was repositioned to its
normal anatomical position and two mattress

Veterinary Sciences and a reputed scientist, edu-
cationist and an able administrator. We, on behatf
of IVJ condole his sad demise and express our
sentirnents to the bereaved family members and
friends on this irreparable loss.
