Lesson: Mountainous Landscape
Questions:
Pre-class:
What is a landscape? What kinds of landscapes have you seen/want to see? Raise your hand if you can tell me what foreground,
middle ground and background mean? How do things compare to between the foreground, middle ground, and background? What
parts of the landscape tell us that the fore ground is in the front, middle ground in the middle, and background in the back?
Post-class:
What color did you choose to paint your mountainous landscape? How do you create tint/shade with watercolors? Does using more
water lighten the pigment?

Overview:
In this lesson, students will be creating a Mountainous Landscape using watercolor techniques and oil pastels. Students will
be applying knowledge of tints, shades, and atmospheric perspective to complete a successful art piece.

Materials:
pencil, sketch paper, watercolor paper, watercolors, brushes, water cup, oil pastels, chrome book, pre class information

Activity:
The teacher will start the project with a discussion on landscapes, showing examples from teacher, Internet, and Bob Ross.
Students will then draw out their landscape, laying out 4 layers of mountains. Next, students will choose one color for their landscape
and create tints and shades to add depth to the mountainous landscape. By applying their color exercise to the final piece, students can
see the difference between foreground, middle ground, and background of their work. Students will add trees in the foreground as a
final touch to tie the art work together.

Evaluation:
Evaluating students be graded on following directions, completion, effort and craftsmanship.

Differentiation:
To implement differentiated instruction in the classroom, I will deliver the lesson through visual examples, discussion, demo
activities, and one on one instruction. On a as-needed bases, students who require reduced assignments will receive a simplified
assignment. This will be helpful to ELL students as well.
