Introduction & Objective
Introduction & Objective
Increasing a research result visibility in the scientific
publication world in order to receive more citations and
improve h-index is important. Publishing a quality
research article in scientific journals is only halfway
towards receiving citation in the future. The rest
depends on advertising and disseminating the
publications via proper utilization. This talk presents
tips for increasing research visibility and will get you
familiar with the method you need to receive more
citations and later improve your h-index.
Objective: To share some tips in increasing research
visibility.

Key Factors for Quality Research
What are the Key Factors to Measure the Quality of
Scientific Publications?
– Originality
– Novelty
– Addressing New Problem/Complex Issue
– Useful for Real World Applications
– Adaptability (Flexibility)- Diversified Data , Scalability
– Applicability
– Generality
– Future Directions
Articles with high Citations
• Broadly, a citation is a reference to a published or
unpublished source (not always the original source).
• More precisely, a citation is an abbreviated
alphanumeric expression embedded in the body of
an intellectual work that denotes an entry in the
bibliographic references section of the work for the
purpose of acknowledging the relevance of the
works of others to the topic of discussion at the spot
where the citation appears.

Articles with high Citations
• Original article – hard to produce
• Survey article
• Articles with short titles describing the
results are cited more often
• Article with (coincidental) mistake
• Multidisciplinary article

Increasing Research Results Visibility

• Write for a larger audience

• Publish early technical reports
• Find suitable journals
• Self-archive your papers
• Dissemination of the findings of your work
• Network with other scholars
Write for a Larger Audience
Publication Preparation
To be the best, cite the best

of giants‘

Write for a Larger Audience
A citation study argues that
the mass of medium-level
research is less important
for inspiring influential
breakthroughs than the
most highly-cited papers.

Write for a Larger Audience
• You should spend some time to identify
various academic audiences and try to provide
them with unexpected perspectives.

• Crafting papers which target multiple fields of

study will help increase your visibility and
number of audiences.
Publish Early Technical Reports
• In Science and Engineering, the time required for
formal publication of a paper (from submission,
review, selection to formal printing) will be in
most cases close to one year for a top conference
publication and longer (over two years) for a top
journal publication.
• Therefore, as soon as the first version of paper is
written, you should consider publishing it as a
Technical Report.
Publish early technical reports
A technical report is a document that describes the
process, progress, or results of technical or scientific
research or the state of a technical or scientific research
problem.

There are many ways to publish Technical Report:

• Publish as university technical report
• Post your reports to Global Archive e.g.
http://arxiv.org/

Publish Early Technical Reports
Find Suitable Journals
 Do not aim too high, do not aim too low.

 ISI JCR index – Q1

 2016 Impact Factor:
17.118
Find Suitable Journals
 Do not aim too high, do not aim too low.
Alternatively you may go to, GTG Journal:

 Scopus Index
Find Suitable Journals
• Spend some time and try to find the most
suitable journal.

e.g: Elsevier® Journal Finder helps you find

journals that could be best suited for publishing
your scientific article.
Find Suitable Journals

http://journalfinder.elsevier.com/
Find Suitable Journals
 Do not target only journals that are rejecting
most of the papers submitted for
consideration (high rejection rate e.g. > 80%).
 Try to avoid journals that are take to too long
for review processes (usually > 6months).
 The two above matters will cause a lot of
frustration for you and delay the publication
of your paper.
Find Suitable Journals
Publish in Open Access Journals with wider
audience e.g:
Self-archive Your Papers
• If you want to maximize research usage and
impact, avoid uploading your papers only in
institutional repositories that are not open to
public access.
• Put your articles on the paths that most
scholars use when they explore the mass of
information on web.
Self-archive Your Papers
• Open repositories such as
www.researchgate.net are particularly useful
and increase the visibility of your paper by
providing it to a wider international audience.
Dissemination of the Findings of Your
Work
• Become more involved in the dissemination of
your papers.
• Send your papers to a target audience that
might not read the journal.
• You can also create a list of people in other
fields unlikely to encounter the paper and e-
mail it to them.
Network with Other Scholars
• Creating profiles in websites like ResearchGate and
www.academia.edu gives others a chance to find out more
about you and your work.
Network with other scholars
• In order to raise your long-term visibility and
impact, you must become aware of new
research opportunities.
• Spending an hour a week for online
interaction with scholars from outside your
research are can be of great help, since
interdisciplinary collaboration can bring about
theoretical innovation.
Conclusion
Increasing Research Results Visibility:
• Write for a larger audience
• Publish early technical reports
• Find suitable journals
• Self-archive your papers
• Dissemination of the findings of your work
• Network with other scholars
Take Away Message
Here are some suggestions:
• Write quality research manuscript
• Publish in quality venues
• Promote your published research
• Enhance scholar networking
