ESSAY TASK (Pag 95)

Your class has recently watched a documentary on what methods governments should use to tackle
cyberbullying amongst schoolchildren. You have made the notes below:
Methods governments should use to tackle cyberbullying amongst schoolchildren:
 School campaigns

 Social media regulation

 Punishment

Some opinions expressed in the documentary:

 ‘If parents don’t monitor their kid’s online activity, there’s not much schools can do.’

 ‘Social media sites should do more to stop cyberbullies.’

 ‘The government should introduce tougher penalties for this kind of bullying.’

Write an essay for your tutor discussing two of the methods in your notes. You should explain which
method you think is more important for governments to consider, giving reasons in support of your
answer.
You may make use of the opinions expressed in the documentary but should use your own words as far
as possible.

Nowadays, social media platforms have started to be frequently used to disturb other people lives. What it
is called “cyberbullying” is becoming common around the youth environment. This new method of
laughing at someone needs to be stopped. But, how can be tackle?

On one hand, governments are those who have to take care of their people. So in order to get rid of this
bad action, they should develop a social media regulation such as banning this kind of websites that
contribute to cyberbullying. There should be a language control in all websites which could avoid rude
words too.

Secondly, if adults do not make known to children that what they are doing is awful, they will keep doing it.
It is known that parents are decisive for children’s behaviour, so they are the first step, bringing them up
correctly. Despite this, governments should introduce some rules and punishments for those children who
do not follow them making them realize that they are hurting someone. May be one solution would be to
introduce a kind of penalty that said that, depending on the level of the dangers, the children who had
bullied had to work during “x” hours cleaning the city or may be helping charity.

Evidentially, if we do not punish cyberbullying, it will not be stopped. Government has to control this
making rules to Internet. But above all, has to punish wrong actions to make know that hurt people it is
disappointing. It make sense that if local authorities penalize people with bad behaviour, they should learn
of their fails and also become as an example for others who could start bullying.
