fiber optic cable
CentraCore OPT-GW
CentraCore Optical Ground Wire is available in fiber counts up to 72, and due to its small
size, offers a unique solution to the diameter and weight concerns on many of today’s
overloaded towers. A central stainless steel tube houses the optical fibers. The stainless
steel tube is then inserted into an aluminum pipe. The pipe provides added crush protec-
tion while increasing the conductivity to accommodate a wide range of fault current needs.
The fibers are protected from environmental conditions (lightning, short circuit, loading) by
the stainless steel tube and the aluminum pipe to ensure reliability and longevity.

Cable Connector Kit
One connector kit is required to secure each cable to the enclosure. The cable connector kit is
attached to the enclosure by threading the outside body into the cable port. The cable is then
prepared for assembly into connector according to the installation instructions provided. All
optical units are inserted through the connector, the cable is positioned into the connector body
and secured with a sleeve device and set screws. Each kit is sized specific to the cable design
and ordered separately.
Re-Entry Made Easy
Re-entry is easily achieved by unscrewing the nut that secures the housing cover. Special
re-entry kits are not required.
Naturally Bullet Resistant
Manufactured from iron and steel, the SB01 splice box is bullet resistant without the need for
additional protective covering as found with other splice enclosures.
Pre-mountable with Buffer Tube Storage
The SB01 can be premounted to the structure before completion of the splicing phase. The
enclosure has the internal capacity to store approximately 25 feet (7.62 m) of buffer tube. This
storage feature is a cost savings, whereby eliminating the need for an external coil storage
bracket (stainless steel tube optical ground wire designs do not apply here and will require a
storage bracket).
For future splicing, the SB01 is designed with an internal tray holder that easily detaches from
the enclosure; buffer tubes can be uncoiled and the tray lowered to the ground.
Cable connector kits required to complete installation are sold separately. Refer to “Ordering
Instructions” Steps 2 and 3 on the following pages to complete your order.

Vibration Damper
Vibration Dampers work to cancel damaging fatigue caused by wind-induced vibration. In contrast
to most tuned damping devices, which operate best only near their natural frequencies, our vibration
dampers are designed for efficient transfer and dissipation of energy for a wide spectrum of frequen-
cies that occur on transmission and distribution lines. They feature all aluminum clamp construction to
match expansion/contraction of conductor and break-away bolts for easy installation and proper torque.

Sheath Stripper
The Fiber Optic Sheath Stripper is designed to longitudinally score the tight structure fiber units within
certain AFL OPT-GW designs. A simple pull of the Sheath Stripper along the fiber unit ensures correct
score depth allowing for easy removal of the overall unit sheath and access to the enclosed fibers. The
reusable unit is custom designed for AFL tight structure units, is supplied with two replacement stain-
less steel blades, and is easy to maintain and adjust. The kit includes the sheath stripper, replacement
blades, adjustment tool, instructions and fiber unit samples for practice and blade adjustments.

AFL Telecommunications offers wedge dead ends that ease and speed ADSS cable instal-
lation. The ADSS Wedge Dead End is ideal in crowded distribution environments because
its shorter length allows for safer and efficient installation. The Wedge Dead End comes
with all parts assembled. The side plates are properly aligned with spacers and self-lock-
ing hex bolts, as well as retainers. Lubricated wedges are pre-installed inside the body of
the dead end. The bail is assembled with stainless steel swaged fittings and
locking disc.
features
• Easier and faster installation
• Lower total system costs
• No special tools or hardware required for installation
• Wedge-type design is safer than spiral wrap style dead ends
• Fewer parts, smaller and easier to store

Mini-Bracket
Mini Brackets are used for short and medium spans of ADSS fiber optic cable. The
Mini Brackets are sized to fit the specified ADSS diameters. Standard Mini Brackets are
employed with fitted bushings to provide a good support/groove fit and to prevent the
support from damaging the cable. The bolted supports are supplied with aluminum
captive bolts to simplify installation with no loose parts.

fiber optic cable
®
MicroCore
MicroCore® is an advanced fiber optic cable technology that allows maximum utilization of existing
or future conduit systems with minimal initial investment. Using microduct technology, MicroCore
cables are jetted through a network of microducts. Changing or adding to your network is as simple
as jetting new fiber optic cables through existing microducts that are part of your conduit system.
That reduces up-front capital costs and allows you to build a network to the size you need it today,
while providing the ability to easily expand future capacity.

SkyWrap®
Successfully installed worldwide since 1982, SkyWrap® is a fiber optic cable helically
applied on ground wires or phase conductors. A specially designed spinning machine is used
to wrap the cable under controlled conditions. This system offers a complete communication
link designed and engineered for high-voltage environments at low cost.
SkyWrap® is the ideal solution when access to the overhead line is problematic. The instal-
lation equipment is lightweight and easy to handle. And, with SkyWrap® there’s no need to
de-energize the line. The cable can be wrapped on the ground wire under live-line conditions.
outer jacket
• Ground Wire: designed for UV aging, lightning, fault current and toughness.
• Phase Conductor: all of the above plus track resistance up to 150kV.
• The cable sheath protects the optical unit and features different design properties
depending on the application.
• Specialized jackets available to fit your unique circumstances.
fiber
• Cable can accommodate up to 72 fibers, 144 fibers possible with a dual wrap.
buffer tube
• Loose tube technology protects against fiber strain. Water blocked buffer tubes provide
protection against moisture penetration. Cable integrity tested in ice, high wind and fault
current temperatures of up to 250°C.
flooding compound
strength members
• Small glass reinforced strength members ensure a uniform installation tension under all
environmental conditions throughout its life. The messenger, either ground wire or phase
conductor, acts as the main support member for the wrapped cable, once installed.

Indoor/Outdoor Plenum
Tight Buffered Cable
Indoor/Outdoor Tight Buffered cables are specified for campus network cabling between
buildings where interbuilding lengths are short enough that the installer can recognize
savings from the lower costs of terminating tight buffered cables.
For indoor applications the cable is OFNP listed. For outdoor applications the cable is
manufactured with an outer jacket that incorporates a UV stabilizer for protection against
exposure to the sun plus an anti-fungus protection for use in underground applications.
