Project Name Mystery Hangout 1st Grade Social Studies

Generation 1st grade ages 6-8
Information 1. The student(s) will collaboratively create a Prezi presentation
describing major landmarks, points of interest, and geographic
features of their nation, state, and city/county.
2. The student(s) will collaboratively create a Kahoot quiz based
upon their presentation describing major landmarks, points of
interest, and geographic features of their nation, state, and
city/county.
3. The student(s) will participate in Mystery Hangout sessions and
devised an educated guess as to where the other group of students
are located (nation, state, city/county)

Time This standard will be taught over a series of 6 weeks (with this
activity and others). This will allow each group (of 5 students) to
meet with a group a least once over the 6-week period. Each
Mystery Hangout will last between 45-60 minutes.
Learning Legacy Prezi presentations can be shared electronically with students from
other countries using Mystery Hangout.

Project Aims The essential aim is to have students create 2 forms of assessment
Focus Questions containing standard content and use Mystery Hangouts for
students to be exposed to peers from other countries.
How can I create a presentation and quiz that will show mastery of
content?
How can I effectively communicate with my peers?
How do I know my peers have learned from my presentation?
How can I learn from peers in other countries?
Standard Alignment The focus Common Core Georgia Performance Standards for this
lesson are:
SS1G2 Identify and locate the student’s city, county, state, nation
(country), and continent on a simple map or a globe.
SS1G3 Locate major topographical features of the earth’s surface.

a. Locate all of the continents: North America, South America,


Africa, Europe, Asia, Antarctica, and Australia.
Prerequisites and Skill Students must be familiar with the basic functions of Prezi,
Level Kahoot, and Mystery Hangout. Students will be required to to use
their background knowledge of these programs to present
information learned, work collaboratively, and share their
presentation/quiz with peers locally and globally.
Required Outcomes -Students will collaborate to create a Prezi presentation covering
major landmarks in their city, state and nation.
-Students will collaborate to create a Kahoot quiz to to assess their
peer’s knowledge of landmarks in their city, state, and nation.
Students will participate in a Mystery Hangout with students from
other countries.
Optional Outcomes Students will have the option to share their Prezi using Mystery
Hangout.
Team Structure Students will collaborate in a group setting.
Required Inputs Students are required to collaborate with other students to create
their Prezi, Kahoot quiz, and in a discussion using Mystery
Hangout.
Optional Inputs Students will have varied background knowledge on the standard.
Assessment Group evaluation rubric
Evaluation A rubric will be provided based on the content knowledge, use of
technology, and collaboration/participation of all students.
