• Particles are incorporated into a stirred bath of molten matrix; later, the
composite is cast and solidified.
 Al B ASED METAL COMPOSITES

• Al based Metal composites are produced by both Powder Metallurgy and

Stir Casting.
• Size of reinforcement influences the mechanical properties such as
strength, ductility and fracture of selflubricating MMCs.
By increasing the reinforcement size, tensile strength and ductility decrease
simultaneously
• MMCs reinforced by larger particles are susceptible to formation of
defects such as cracking during mechanical testing which results in a
premature failure of the composites.
