MAHASHIVRATRI CELEBRATIONS:
On this day, devotees remember Lord Shiva, chant prayers ("Om Namah
Shivaya"), fast, do Shiva yoga, visit temples and some even keep awake all night
(jaagaran).
Also by chanting the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra is considered powerful and one
can seek the blessings of Lord Shiva on this day. The mantra is –
Om Tryambhakam Yajamahe
Sugandhim Pushtivardhanam |
Urvarukamiva Bandhanan
Mrityor Mukshiya Maamritat ||
While praying and chanting the mantra’s to Lord Shiva, it is considered the best
to do the chant with a Rudraksha Mala. One can also offer Rudraksha Malas to
Lord Shiva to seek his divine blessings.
Rudraksha is a Sanskrit word consisting of the name Rudra ("Shiva") and akṣa
("Teardrops"). The Rudraksha Mala is very close to Lord Shiva as it is said that
the Rudraksha is formed from the tear of Lord Shiva. Also, the lord himself
adorns one.
BENEFITS OF RUDRAKSHA MALA:
It generates positive aura around the wearer
It helps in calming down the person
Any person irrespective of his age, gender or horoscope can wear it
It is scientifically proven for having medical values such as controlling
blood pressure, anxiety, depression etc.
It is believed that offering the Rudraksha to Lord Shiva can please the deity
