INDIA AND THE NETHERLANDS- PARTNERS FOR INNOVATIVE SOLUTION IN


HEALTHCARE

New Delhi, February 21 2018: The blooming healthcare section of India which is expected to touch
$260 billion by the year 2020 represents an opportunity for the Dutch Government. The Netherlands
being strong in the areas of vaccines, therapeutics, diagnostics, medical devices and hospital design would
make an interesting partner for India, both as a supplier and a knowledge partner. With better marketing
strategies and organisation flexibility, India could be an interesting market for the Dutch Companies from
the export and investment perspective. For Dutch companies and institutions, India could be an important
partner to work with when it comes to cost effective solutions for healthcare. India is already playing this
role in pharma and the country has emerged as a source for innovation in cost effective healthcare
delivery.

With focus on the Innovative Healthcare Section, a 32-member Dutch delegation comprising … will be
attending the Bio Asia Summit, 2018 in Hyderabad and the Innovative India Seminar, 2018 in New
Delhi.

In the past, The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India and the Netherlands
Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) had opened a joint call for proposals in December, 2016.
The topic of the call was Technology for a Sustainable Healthcare: Minimally invasive techniques. This
programme offered funding opportunities for joint research cooperation between Dutch and Indian
research groups.

The two countries had also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of
Measles- Rubella Vaccines.

INTRAVACC, a part of Netherlands’ Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, is an internationally


renowned institute for vaccine development and has a long history in technology transfer. With the
technical support from INTRAVACC, Bharat Immunologicals and Biologicals Corporation Ltd
(BTBCOL), a Central Public Sector Unit (CPSU) under the Department of Biotechnology of Union
Ministry of Science & Technology had supplied billions of doses of oral polio vaccine and had played a
major role in making india polio free.

Healthcare has become one of India's largest sectors both in terms of revenue & employment. The
industry is growing at a tremendous pace owing to its strengthening coverage, services and increasing
expenditure by public as well as by private players.
Indian companies are entering into merger & acquisitions with domestic & foreign companies to drive
growth & gain new markets.

Innovate India Seminar will provide a huge platform for the Indian Healthcare Sector to develop
and prosper by collaborating with the Dutch companies attending the conference

The Dutch Life Science & Health sector is one of the best in the world. On many fronts The Netherlands
is a role model: In the field of pharmaceuticals, biotech and medical engineering. Thanks to
multidisciplinary collaboration in open innovation, which focuses on the ‘quality of life’ and is geared to
affordable care,
The Netherlands offers solutions to the prevalent global challenges posed by health.

Hyderabad, the Pharma capital of India will be hosting the Bio Asia Summit from 22 to 24 February,
2018. It is one of the most important production locations for vaccines in India with some of the
prominent players in this fast-growing city such as Biological E, Bharat Biotech, Indian Immunologicals
Ltd and Shantah Biotech.

This event will bring together the most important stakeholders in the Indian pharma and biotech industry.

Together with the organization of BioAsia during the event, a Netherlands Belgium-India session will be
organized with the most important Indian vaccine developers (including Serum Institute of India, Bharat
Biotech, Biological E, and Indian Immunologicals). The industry consists, among other things, a lot of
interest for new vaccine production technologies and solutions for diseases such as Dengue, Zika,
Malaria, and HIV.

In addition to these vaccine sessions and the conference program for those interested, there are
opportunities for 1-on-1 matchmakings and visits to vaccine development and production locations.
