 News from Head of Primary
Welcome back! After the summer
holiday we arrived at the moment of
issuing our first newsletter. I hope you
had a wonderful time away from
school, and now you return with a
load of fresh energy, ready for new
challenges.
We greeted pupils with a slightly
refreshed campus, allowing children a
bit more space to play outdoor, and
the renovated playground facilities. We have two new full-
time teachers, Ms Polly Hall for Year 1 Koalas and Ms Zoe
Brzezinski for Year 5 Orcas. We also have Mr Alberto
Regagliolo who will teach Spanish and Italian. Please give
them a warm welcome so that they can quickly feel a part of
BISC community.
Surely I must mention so many new faces amongst the
pupils of the primary school: Vandana, Andreas, Sehyeon,
Calvin, Eunho and Róża in Year 1 Koalas; Minseung, Ania and
Kyle in Year 2 Grasshoppers; Min Kyo, Taeyoon, Christos,
Karivadan and Tanish in Year 3 Foxes, Sehoon in Year 4
Fossas; Arsh in Year 5 Orcas; Jenny in Year 5 Bobcats; Emma,

News from Head of Secondary
Hello everyone and welcome to a
new year at BISC! I hope everyone
enjoyed their summer holidays and
stored up enough energy to tackle a
new and challenging school year.
Teachers spent most of this week
introducing students to the new
courses and students are beginning
to get used to their daily routines.
Secondary teachers will be more
creative this year in their classrooms and with school
activities to help with improving student life for our
secondary students. I hope students will like the positive
changes that will be seen throughout the year.
I would like parents to view the Student Uniform
Requirements page of this newsletter that details our dress
code policy. The dress code policy will be strictly enforced
this year and so I encourage parents to view the dress
requirements and obtain the appropriate components of the
uniform as soon as possible. There is also a uniform for PE
that will be enforced this year as well, which is also
explained in the document. If you have any questions
regarding the student dress code, please contact me or your
child’s Form Tutor.

Spotlight on Polly Hall and Zoe Brzezinski
I am Polly and I am very excited to start what I’m sure
will be a fantastic year at BISC Wrocław.
I was born in Shrewsbury, a small but historical town on
the border between England and Wales. School was
something that I enjoyed hugely as a child, particularly
English, History and modern languages, and so I always
considered teaching as a possible career. I was lucky to
have some wonderful teachers when I was a child, and it
was these role models who inspired me to go into
teaching myself.
I attended the University of Nottingham to complete a
degree in Modern Language Studies, focusing on
French, Spanish and beginner’s Russian. This course
enabled me to pursue my passion for languages,
literature and history as well as gaining teaching
experience. As part of my degree I spent a year abroad
studying and working in France, Argentina and Russia. I
studied translation and language acquisition at
university in Grenoble, worked as a translator for a
children’s charity in Buenos Aires, and then taught at a
summer camp by the Black Sea in Russia. These were all
extremely valuable experiences, but it was my time in
Russia, teaching English and assisting with drama
lessons, that truly inspired me.
When I finished my undergraduate studies, I stayed at
the University of Nottingham to do a Postgraduate
Certificate in Education, in which I gained a merit. I
enjoyed the opportunity to study educational theory at
university while simultaneously teaching in a variety of
schools. I completed teaching placements at a high
achieving Catholic school in Nottingham and a school in
rural Derbyshire, as well as visiting a school for children
with severe special educational needs and disabilities.
Following my PGCE, I worked at a number of primary
schools in inner city Derby, where I enjoyed the
challenge of teaching high numbers of pupils who had
English as an additional language and many of whom
came from difficult backgrounds. I also had the
opportunity to teach Spanish at a primary school in
Mansfield, and to run an after school club focusing on
Spanish culture at the same school. The pupils’ curiosity
and enthusiasm for other cultures made this hugely
rewarding.
Having had such a positive teaching experience abroad
previously, it was always my intention to seek a role at
an international school, and when I found out about
BISC Wrocław , I knew that it was the right place for me.
Wroclaw is a beautiful and interesting city, and BISC is
the warm, supportive teaching environment that I
always wanted to be a part of. I am excited to bring my
enthusiasm for teaching to BISC, to be part of a great
team, and to teach a class of lovely Year 1 pupils.
Since the age of 11 I have played the double bass. This
has been great fun and provided me with the opportunity
to play in the school orchestras, the University of
Nottingham Sinfonia and Philarmonia, and take part in
orchestra tours to Paris and Prague. I also enjoy going to
the theatre and cinema, and continuing to take an interest
in language learning and other cultures.
Polly Hall
Hello! My name is Miss Zoe. I joined BISC Wrocław this
year, after moving to Poland from the beautiful area of the
Lake District in Great Britain.
I have aspired to be a teacher from the age of 6. Since
then I have dedicated all my time to expanding my
knowledge and expertise in all subject areas as well as
directing my GCSE’s and A-Levels towards a teaching
career. I have been volunteering and working in schools
since the age of 15. Through my parents and my sporting
life outside of school, I worked with young children in
Rainbow’s; a Life Skills, Girls Guiding group for children
aged 5-7 and worked as an assistant Gymnastics coach for
under 10s.
I went on to study a Bachelor of Arts degree in Primary
Education specialising in the Later Years at Leeds Trinity
University. Through my dedicated placements I taught in
years 3,4 and 5 with volunteered experience in years 2, 6
and Reception. The university was originally a teacher
training college and so the support, guidance and training I
received was first class. I left the university with a high 2:1-
degree classification and a wealth of experience.
During my three years at university, I taught across the city
of Leeds, from Roman Catholic schools, to schools in
deprived areas. I also spent a significant time working at a
school designed for children with profound, complex, and
significant learning difficulties, medical conditions, and
disabilities, for example, Down Syndrome, non-verbal
Autism, and Cerebral Palsy. I have also worked with EAL
children from France, Germany, Nigeria, Romania, Kenya,
and Poland. Over the years, I have worked alongside
Educational Behavioural Units and worked closely with
children from difficult and challenging home
environments.
Looking forward in my teaching career I would aspire to be
subject co-ordinator and to take more responsibility in the
school environment. I am also planning to complete my
Masters in Child and Adolescent Psychology. I am very
excited to be joining BISC Wrocław and to be teaching the
Year 5 Orcas, and I look forward to seeing how they
develop over this next year!

Student Uniform Requirements 2017/2018

Dear Parents,

Here are the uniform requirements for 2017-2018 including details of two options for purchase. Purchases made
for uniform components from other vendors will not be acceptable as students will need to have the same uniform
colour and style.

YEARS 1 to 11
Boys: shirt and tie/polo shirt, long-trousers and V-neck sweater. Summer term, as before with option to change to
polo-shirt and to wear shorts if desired. Shoes to be black or dark- brown with grey socks if shorts worn.
PE – white T-shirt, blue shorts, blue track-top and jog-pants with white socks.
Coat – parents’ choice.

Girls: blouse and tie/polo shirt, choice of skirt, trousers, pinafore, and cardigan. Summer term, as before with the
option to change to summer-dress if desired. White socks should be worn with skirts and dresses. Shoes should be
black or dark-brown (no high-heels or platforms).
PE – white T-shirt, blue shorts, blue track-top and jog-pants with white socks.
Coat – parents’ choice.

SIXTH FORM
School uniform is optional. Dress from home should follow the dress code on appropriateness and modesty.

For parents who wish to purchase school uniform there are two options available:

1. In Poland
The school uses the company Mark Mundurki from Gdańsk.
In order to obtain the school uniform, you need to enter into your computer the following link www.mark-
mundurki.pl and then click on ‘internet shop,’ after which you enter our password biscw (you will note the option
of languages on the right-hand side). This company can arrange the polo shirt with school logo as well as the other
parts of the uniform. The main complaint from parents has been the quality and cost of items. In Poland uniforms
are rarely used in schools so it is difficult to find a good supplier.

2. Next Online
Many parents attest to the quality of the polo shirts from this supplier. The code for the polo shirt is
http://www.next.co.uk/g75462s6. Shorts trousers and skirts are also available on their catalogue. The polo shirt
comes without the logo but we are investigating having iron-on and stitch-on logos available at the school for
parents.
