Installing Indian Language support(UNICODE) for Windows XP (for both viewing

and typing Indian Text)

System Requirements:

1. PC with Windows XP installed


2. Windows XP CD

Steps:

1. Go to Start > Control Panel.


2. If you are in "Category View" select the icon that says "Date, Time, Language
and Regional Options" and then select "Regional and Language Options".

3. If you are in Classic View select the icon that says "Regional and Language
Options".
4. Select the "Languages" tab and make sure you select the option saying "Install
files for complex script and right-to-left languages (including Thai)". A
confirmation message should now appear - press "OK" on this confirmation
message.

5. Allow the OS to install necessary files from the Windows XP CD and then reboot
if prompted.

That’s all. Now you can view Indic text in all Indic Websites and applications( if
applicable).

Inputting Indic text


Installation of utility to type in Hindi
This would guide you with the steps that you require to download and install the utility
"Hindi Indic IME 1 Version 5.0 and Telugu Indic IME" on your system. Indic IME
gives a very convenient way of entering text in Hindi using the English QWERT keyboard
in any Office XP application, wordpad and notepad on Windows 2000/ Windows XP
platform. Once the utility has been installed you can make entries for in the RMS in Hindi
and can switch between English and Hindi as the default entry language.

Please follow the steps given below to complete the download and installation:
1. Download the software by using below link

2. You need to be working on either Windows 2000 or Windows XP to use this utility
3. Installation Notes

a. To unzip hindi_IME_setup.zip either right click the file and select the extract option or
double click the file and follow the steps.
b. Run Hindi Setup.exe and follow the instructions in the setup program.
c. Also repeat the same for Telugu. Reboot your system.
f. Go to Control Panel > Regional and Language Settings. Select "Language" tab. Click
"Details..." under "Text services and input languages". The following window will be
displayed
g. Click on "Add..." to add the new input language.
h. Select "Hindi" as the "Input Language" and "Hindi Indic IME 1 [V 5.0]" as the
"Keyboard layout/IME"
Repeat the same for Telugu language
i. Click on "OK". The following screen will be displayed:
j.Click on "Apply" to exit the window. A "Language Indicator" will appear on Windows
taskbar.
k. To start typing in Hindi, click the Language Indicator located in the System Tray on the
right side of the Windows taskbar.
l.Select Hindi as the language from the Language Indicator. You can also switch between
Hindi/English as the language of entry by pressing Alt + Shift.
m. When Hindi is the selected language, the Language Bar appears near the System Tray.
n. To chose the keyboard layout, click on the keyboard icon (second from the left) in the
language bar and make the required selection
4. Keyboards for Hindi
Indic IME provides support for six types of keyboard:
a. Hindi Transliteration – Using phonetic typing, the user can type his message in Roman
using the Standard English keyboard, which is transliterated on-the-fly to Hindi. It works
on the logic of phonetics and is most effective when you spell the word the way it is
spoken.
b. Hindi Remington- Hindi Remington is usual Remington Hindi typewriter Typing can
be done as per the key mapping of the Remington keyboard.
c. Hindi Typewriter- Another Hindi keyboard used in typing. Typing can be done as per
the key mapping of Hindi typewriter keyboard.
d. Inscript Keyboard- Another Hindi Keyboard where the user types the basic characters
in sequence and an underlying logic determines that which of these characters have to be
combined and substituted to form a glyph.
e. Webdunia Keyboard- Another Hindi keyboard used in typing. Typing can be done as
per the key mapping of Webdunia Keyboard.
f. Anglo Nagari Keyboard- Another Hindi keyboard used in typing. Typing can be done as
per the key mapping of Webdunia Keyboard.
Typing is easy even if you do not know Hindi Typing, just use Transliteration
scheme. Select “Transliteration Scheme” in hindi keyboard layout (See above
ScreenShot)
Now Type “hindi” on keyboard to input िहिनद in MS Word.
