The work titled “A Study on Archival Systems and Services of TV Channel in

the Dhaka city of Bangladesh” has been conducted under the supervision of (Dr.
Mezbah-Ul-Islam), Associate Professor, of Department of Information Science
and Library Management, University of Dhaka. It was his keen interest,
sustained encouragement and valuable guidance, which enable me to go to deep
into the study. I am profoundly indebted and grateful to my teacher and
supervision.

I am also grateful and indebted to other teachers of this department for their
constant valuable advice. I received co-operation from archives personnel of
BTV and other TV channel. I thank them whole heartedly for providing me with
necessary data and information whenever I asked.

In pursuing the study, I have to depend on different Nation and International

books and publication. I am indebted to the authors whose work I have used in
the research work.

I convey thanks to all of my friends who lent a helping hand on various

occasion to purpose the work.

I am deeply indebted to my parents and all of my family members for their

encouragement in the period of research. I thank them very much.

 PREFACE
Television archive is an important section of Television channel. Every document including
program and news are stored in archive. Its resources are usually planned to cover the inter
output of the nations record of culture, wisdom and experience. Television archive is
responsible mainly for collecting the documents that TV channel broadcast everyday which
are preserved to ensure their survival for future on- air.

The main purpose of this study to describe the overall condition of TV channel archives
specially systems, services, functions, budget, organizational structure, staff, collection etc.

However, the research work will only be valuable when one can get from it perfect idea of
the TV archives and can get suggestion and take step for the development and improvement
of this particular institution.

This thesis work includes six chapters. In these chapters different topics are discussed. The
first chapter is the introductory chapter. It deals with the purpose, scope and methodology.
The second chapter contains the historical background of TV channel archives in Bangladesh.

Second chapter also points out and gives an idea about the collection, systems, services, staff,
budget, software etc.

Third chapter is data analysis. It gives a statistical idea about TV archive. In fourth chapter a
model of TV archive has given. It will provide a proper management of TV archives.

The last chapter is existing problems of TV archives and recommendation which is given for
the reader’s betterment.
