Compare and Contrast between Recycling

and Landfill

1
Recycling method is better than landfill for waste disposal. Here the similarities and differences

are discussed and finally we will take a side for one method. The recycling method is quite efficient

and consumes much lesser space than the landfill method, which takes a lot of space for waste

disposal. The cost of using the recycling method is higher than that of the landfill method of waste

disposal. The landfill method of waste disposal disposes the chemicals directly into the ground.

The recycling method does not require that much of monitoring whereas the landfill method needs

close monitoring for waste disposal. If the landfill method of waste disposal is used, the businesses

are required to pay a huge amount of tax for the waste disposal and environmental sustainability.

The recycling method has long-term benefits, which includes sustainability and easier

decomposition of waste. The landfill method of waste disposal produces methane and carbon

dioxide, which is released into the groundwater. The landfill method also produces a huge amount

of garbage, which produces bacteria and releases toxins that gives birth to a number of diseases.

The recycling method, on the other hand, is very sustainable, and it helps in the preservation of

Mother Nature.

The similarities between the recycling method and landfill method are that both are techniques of

waste disposal. Both the recycling method and the landfill method causes pollution to the

environment. The economic costs are there for both the recycling method and the landfill method.

Both this method are considered as alternative techniques that prevent the accumulation of wastes

by a human. Both the recycling method and the landfill method creates a disturbance related to the

infrastructure surrounding it like the roads, and the methods require the use of vehicles. Both the

processes require a massive location for the entire process to be conducted. The health issues are

there with both the recycling methods and the landfill methods.

2
When the recycling method for waste disposal is used, it can be said that the waste materials are

dumped in a particular place, which is converted into useful materials for future use by the help of

machinery. The dumping of the waste materials can cause pollution, and the recycling method

recycles the waste materials very fast with the help of machinery, and so, it has long-term benefits

of maintaining environmental sustainability.

The waste materials produced by humans are of two types, namely, the biodegradable materials

and the non-biodegradable materials. Though the biodegradable materials can be easily

decomposed by the landfill method, yet it does not have the capacity to decompose the non-

biodegradable materials like plastic. On the other hand, the recycling method can dispose both the

biodegradable and the non-biodegradable materials as it is just recycled with the help of

machinery. Naturally, the modern generation produces both biodegradable and non-biodegradable

waste, and so, the recycling method is considered to be better than the landfill method for waste

disposal.

It is also quite natural that the landfill method would accumulate a huge amount of waste under

the ground, and the disposal of those waste materials in a biological manner would take a huge

amount of time. Even the recycling method consumes a lot of time in carrying the materials to a

separate place and recycling it back into the market, but still, the time consumption is lower than

that of the landfill method. The accumulation of a huge waste under the ground for a long time can

also create bacteria, which can produce diseases. Thus, the negative health impact of the recycling

method is less than that of the landfill method.

From the above comparison, it can be understood that the recycling method has more advantages

than the landfill method in matters of waste disposal, and the recycling method even saves time,

cost and space to a huge extent. The advantages of recycling methods are that it can perform waste

disposal in a perfect manner, and helps in maintaining the environmental sustainability. The

advantages of landfill method are also performing the waste disposal in an easy manner where the

waste materials are just buried inside the ground. As compared to that, recycling method is costlier

because it uses machinery for converting the waste materials to be prepared for future use. As both

the methods create pollution, it can be said that landfill method is naturally helping the disposal of

waste materials. Therefore, the recycling method is chosen.
