Subject: Slip hinge pin on B+V power slips

Purpose: To inform the industry to check the slip hinge pins and
replace them if necessary

Effective: All B+V Power Slips PS-500, PS 750 Frame 1 and Frame 2

Description of incident:

Blohm +Voss was informed of an incident with the PS 750-1 power slip. While making up a
couple of 6 5/8“ DP connections it was discovered that the slip hinge pins were bent.
The investigation revealed that the pin were made of material which do not meet the
mechanical requirements.

Recommendation to the industry:

Check the marking on top of the hinge pins.

The correct slip hinge pins have the marking as written in

below table.
The marking contents the manufacturer name (for example
“BÜMI”) and the date of production with month and year
(for example “02/05” means production date in february
2005)

If none or any marking with an older production date is on

top of the bolt, contact Blohm + Voss for warranty. We Fig. Top of slip hinge pin
recommend to change all pins which have no marking or
an older production date as February 2005.
