SYNOPSIS

My live project relates to “Observe if there is any correlation between the mark
obtained by the student and his/her attendance in your college”.
I had been ICFAI national college, which is situated in vijaynagar,mysore.
The principal of this college Mr. MEGHARAJ HABIB co-operated with me
very well and gave relevant information, which I required for my Live
project.
INTRODUCTION

Correlation is a statistical tool that helps to measure and analyze

the degree or extent to which two or more variable fluctuate with
reference to one another. Thus correlation denotes the
interdependence among the variables.

Correlation is described in several ways. Four of the most

important are:

• Positive and negative correlation

• Simple and multiple correlation
• Partial and total correlation
• Linear and non- linear correlation

Positive and negative correlation:

The correlation is said to be positive
or direct when the increase or decrease in the value of one variable
leads to an increase or decrease in the value of other variable.
Correlation is said to be negative
when an increase in the value of one variable leads to decrease in
the value of other variable.

Simple and multiple correlations:

The difference between simple and
multiple correlations is based upon the number of variables. In
simple correlation the relationship is confined to two variables and
in multiple correlations the relationship is between more two
variables.

Partial and total correlation:

In partial correlation an analyst
recognizes more than two variables but considers only two
variables keeping the other constant.

OBJECTIVES:

• Increases the communication and interaction level.

• Practical exposure.
• Know the unknown things.

LIMITATIONS:

• Lack of co-operation from the concern members.

RESEARCH METHEDOLOGY:
Primary data:
Direct content with concern party

Secondary data:
Referred ICFAI NATIONAL college text book
“Quantitative methods”.

The total correlation is based on all the relevant variables, which

is normally not feasible.

Linear and non- linear correlation:

Correlation is said to be linear when amount of
change in one variable tends to be bear a constant ratio to the amount of
change in the other.
Correlation could be non- linear if the amount of
change in one variable does not bear a constant ratio to the amount of
change in other variable.
DATA COLLECTION

I got marks and attendance of 15 students in our college.

The principal of ICFAI national college Mr. MEGHARAJ HABIB
co-operated with me very well.

The following data represents attendance and marks obtained by 15

students.

r = correlation
∑xy = co- variations of x and y
x = (x-X) means deviations is X series from its actual mean
y = (y-Y) means deviations in Y series from its actual mean
x = standard deviations of x series
y = standard deviations of y series
N= number of observations

Mean X = ∑x / N
= 1030 / 15
=68.66

Mean Y = ∑Y / N

=63.66

x = ∑x2 / N

=19.10

y = ∑y / N
= 3631.81 / 15
= 242.12
= 15.56

Correlation r = ∑xy / N x y
= 4368.81 / 15 (19.10) (15.56)
=4368.81 / 4457.94
= 0.98

OR

r = ∑xy / ∑x2 * ∑y2

= 4368.81 / 5473.25 * 3631.81
= 4368.81 / 19877804.08
= 4368.81 / 4458.45

FINDINGS AND ANALYSIS

• It is positive correlation because value of one variable increases as

the value of other variable increases that is positive relationship between
marks and attendance by the students.
• The students who are highest attendance scored highest marks.
