The Role of Cone Beam CT imaging in Endodontic
Diagnosis & Treatment Planning in the 21st Century.
This lecture series will take a clinical case-based approach
to demonstrate the indications and critical importance
of CBCT imaging in contemporary endodontic practice.
Key points demonstrated through clinical cases will be
linked back to published research.
Key Learning Objectives
●● Recognise the limitations of conventional (2D) radiography.
●● Understand
the pros & cons of CBCT (3D) imaging, and
minimum resolution requirements for diagnostic imaging.
●● Gaina confident understanding of the indications and role
of CBCT imaging in endodontics.
●● Understand
the various radiographic artefacts that may
impact CBCT imaging, as well as situations where CBCT
may be unsuitable.
●● How to access & correctly use versatile open-source generic
software to view and export CBCT images.
●● Understandradiation dosage & safety so that you can
respond knowledgeably to patients’ genuine concerns.
●● Know the extent of practitioner medicolegal responsibility
related to CBCT imaging (both in-house & by referral).

Dr Geoff Young obtained his BDS (University
Medal) from the University of Sydney in 2002,
and his Specialist degree from the University
of Melbourne in 2007. He went on to establish
Sydney Endodontic Centre – the largest specialist endodontic
group practice in the Inner West of Sydney.
Dr Young was the first endodontist in NSW awarded Fellowship
of the RACDS in the Special Field of Endodontics, and is a current
examiner for the FRACDS (GDP) final examination. Dr Young is
committed to clinical teaching at the University of Sydney, as well
as developing and providing continuing education through the
ADA and RACDS. He is Past President of the Australian Society
of Endodontology (NSW), as well as a member of the Australian
& New Zealand Academy of Endodontics, the International
Association of Dental Traumatology, and the American Association
of Endodontists.
