Q5 Time for a truck mixer cycle

Capacity of a truck = 6 m3
Loading time = 10 min.
The distance from batching plant to site = 4 km
Speed of the truck = 8 km/h
Time required to transport = (4 x 60) / 8 = 30 min.
Time for a truck mixer cycle = (30 + 10) = 40 min.

6
Q6 Total time required for placing the concrete

Total time to require for placing = (40 + 20) = 60 min

Q7 Number of trucks that will be required for the work

When considering the truck requirement, there shouldn’t be any delay in the site. So, truck
requirement is calculated by truck mix cycle.
Time to pump concrete = 20 min
Time for one truck to finish the concrete pump = (Time for transport + pumping time)
= 30 min + 20 min = 50 min
Trucks should be reach every 20 min without
delaying to the site. So, pumped concrete = 50 min/ 20 min
trucks within 50 min. = 2.5
Then, time for the first truck to come = 30 min
to batching plant.
So, number of trucks in that time = 30 min / 20 min
= 1.5
Total required trucks = 1 + 2.5 + 1.5
= 5 trucks

Q8 Cost of concrete at the batching plant

Volume of aggregates (fine and coarse)

Volume of aggregate with voids (fine and coarse)
𝑉(𝑣)
= 0.4
0.6634 𝑚3

𝑉(𝑣) = 0.2654 𝑚³
Total volume with voids (fine and coarse)
0.2654 𝑚³ + 0.6634 𝑚³ = 0.9288 𝑚³

7
Volume of fine aggregate
0.9288 𝑚³
1 = 0.2408 𝑚³
+1
0.35

Volume of coarse aggregate

0.9288 𝑚³
= 0.688 𝑚³
1.35

Cost per 1m³

Fine aggregate (Rs)
4500 × 0.2408 = 1084
Coarse aggregate (Rs)
5000 × 0.688 = 3440
Cement (Rs)
320 × 15 = 4800
Water (Rs)
0.16 × 25 = 4
Batching plant hire rate (Rs)
200
Therefore, total cost for 1m³ of concrete at the batching plant (Rs)
1084 + 3440 + 4800 + 4 + 200 = 9528

Q9 Cost of transporting and placing concrete

The truck mixer hire rate per 1 km (Rs)

100
Total cost for trucks
100 × 4 × 55 = 22000
Hire rate for concrete pump (Rs)
400 × 330 = 132000
Total cost (Rs)
22000 + 132000 = 154000

Subject:
Batching of concrete method statement

Scope
The scope of this procedure covers checks required to
be carried out prior to and during the site batching of
concrete.

1. Procedure
Checks Prior to Commencement of Activity.
 Basic concrete elements, namely, Cement, coarse and fine aggregate must the
contract specifications.
 The availability of drinking water and power shall be ensured. In case of a
power failure, necessary measures shall also have been planned.
 Check the type of mixture, if necessary, to add. If necessary, get the approval
of the consultant's representative.
2. Handling and Storage of Materials:

Take special precautions for storing basic materials avoiding contamination. Unless
otherwise stated, the following measures shall be taken for the handling and storage of these
materials:

9
3. Cement (in bulk):
 The silos must be weather resistant and the mechanism must be regularly
cleaned according to the manufacturer's manual.
 The air filter is cleaned after every delivery.
 Care must be taken to use the cement stored in the order of delivery.
 Care must be taken to minimize cement contamination with air.
 The silo shall be painted with a light colour and wherever possible, shaded from
sun.

4. Aggregates
 The aggregates storage must be clean; permanent clean hard-standing laid to fall
for drainage.
 Different aggregate sizes separated from each other in rigid compartments or
chambers with separating walls which extend sufficiently high to prevent
mixing of different ones added during the batch.
 In hot climates, shading or spraying of clean water is necessary to reduce fine
dust and has not accumulated at lower levels. If this occurs, contaminated
aggregates should be removed and washed or replaced with clean materials.
 If aggregates are wet, stockpiles are inspected frequently to ensure that fine
dust and does not accumulate at the lower levels. If this occurs, contaminated
aggregates should be removed and washed or replaced with clean materials.
5. Admixtures
 Storage of the admixture shall comply with the manufacturer's
recommendations.
 Containers shall be levelled to indicate the batch number, date of manufacture,
shelf life and other storage requirements.
6. Water
 Water should be stored as cool as possible, especially if it has been supplied
by a tanker or shallow wells will be stored.
 As far as possible, storage tanks shall be located below the ground. This is not
possible, they should be at least shaded from the sun and painted white.
 Tanked must be covered properly to prevent algae growth.
 For cooling water can be used cooling towers uniform sites that reduce the
temperature to 10 ° C or ice used.
7. Plant
 Batching and mixing plant should be kept clean and white.
 If possible, the batching and mixing plant will be shaded from the sun.
 Provision should be made to avoid the accumulation of dust on the soil and
immediately before each use (or after a major interruption of concreting). this
should be flushed out of water.
 Feeding belts and weight batchers must be protected from wind.
 Ensure the accuracy of all weighing and measuring equipments. Otherwise
calibrate it.

10
8. Batching by volume
 Prepare gauge boxes or similar standard containers of such size as a full filling
is required when proportioning materials.
 Clearly written instructions to the plant operator on the quantities of all
materials to be batched and the batching sequence for each required mixture is
required.
 Priming of internal drum mixing shall be carried out at the time of loading of
the first batch of materials.
 Ingredients should be mixed for a sufficient time as specified to ensure
uniform distribution of the materials.
 Check the zero reading when the hopper is empty.
 Check the speed of the mixing drum once a week and adjust to the speed
indicated in the manufacturer's manual.
 Regular maintenance of moving parts is carried out according to the
manufacturer's manual.
 Transport of concrete with a minimum delay to put before it hardens and is
difficult to place and compact.
9. Curing

After the first set of the concrete when the concrete is hard enough not to be damaged by such
action, the surface of the exposed concrete will be covered with drenched gunny bags. These
bags are left in place and held in a soaking state for seven days. For the formed surfaces, curing
is applied. Curing compounds if used must be approved.
