2. EL ADJETIVO. CONCEPTO
A. ADJETIVOS CALIFICATIVOS
(Nosotros no decimos "rojo coche" sino "coche rojo". Ellos dicen "red car". Sería
incorrecto decir "car red")
Ejemplos:
My blue shirt (Mi camisa azul).
This wonderful house is yours (Esta casa maravillosa es tuya).
This lovely woman is my mother (Esta mujer encantadora es mi madre).
Our father is a clever man (Nuestro padre es un hombre inteligente).

B. ADJETIVOS DEMOSTRATIVOS
SINGULAR:
THIS: Este, esta, esto.
THAT: Ese, esa, eso.
Aquel, aquella, aquello.
PLURAL:
Ejemplos:
These tables are red, but this chair and those desks are white.
MY: mi.
YOUR: tu.
HIS: su (de él).

Your dog´s name is George.
El nombre de tu perro es George.
Her hair is blond and long.
Su cabello es rubio y largo.
Our car is very fast.
Nuestro coche es muy veloz.
D. ADJETIVOS INDEFINIDOS
SOME: Algunos, algunas (en oraciones afirmativas).
I have got some boxes with pencils.
Yo tengo algunas cajas con lapiceros.

F. ADJETIVOS INTERROGATIVOS
WHAT: ¿Qué + sustantivo?
What car do you mean?
¿A qué coche te refieres?
What day is today?
¿Qué día es hoy?
What time is it?
¿Qué hora es?
WHICH: ¿Cuál + sustantivo?
¿Qué + sustantivo?
Which one?
¿Cuál de ellos?
Which Monday will you come home?
¿Qué lunes vendrás a casa?

A. COMPARATIVO
My house is bigger than your house.
My girlfriend is more beautiful than your brother´s girlfriend.
"THAN".
This car is big. Este coche es grande.
This car is bigger than this bike.
"TALL"
My brother is taller than yours.
"SMALL"
My cat is smaller than yours.
14 TAMadrid
U . D . 1 - E STUDIO DE LOS MORFEMAS BÁSICOS
"LONG"
From my house to your house, there is a long way to go.
The way from my house to yours is longer than the way from my house to the church.
partícula MORE
BORING/MORE BORING (aburrido/más aburrido)
Ejemplos:
BEAUTIFUL
This car is MORE beautiful THAN yours.
INTELLIGENT
My mother is MORE intelligent THAN her sister.
STUPID
Carol is MORE stupid THAN her friend.
Carol es más estúpida que su amiga
TAMadrid
15
Ejemplos:
This girl is LESS beautiful THAN your daughter.
Your grandmother is LESS thin THAN your mum.
This house is LESS dirty THAN the supermarket.
The fattest man in the world is your uncle.
Pretty/The prettiest
Mary is the prettiest girl in the class
partícula MOST precedida del artículo determinado THE
Boring/THE MOST boring
Peter is the most boring boy in the class.
Intelligent/THE MOST intelligent
In my opinion, you are the most intelligent woman.
You have done the most wonderful thing.
cuál no varía.
This is the least beautiful thing that you have ever done.
This chair is the least small one.
Esta es la silla menos pequeña.

Actor - actress (Actor - actriz)
Widow - Widower (Viuda - Viudo)

– Nombres incontables:
There is sand in my shoes.(Hay tierra en mis zapatos)
Peter is drinking milk. (Peter está bebiendo leche)
The water is in the fridge.
A piece of bread / Un trozo de pan
A glass of wine / Un vaso de vino
A cup of tea / Una taza de té

Ejemplos:
The boy’s room. La habitación del muchacho.
Dad’s book is that one. El libro de papá es aquél.
My girlfriend’s house is far from my house.
Ejemplos:
My brothers’ car: El coche de mis hermanos.
My parents’ business: El negocio de mis padres.
The boys’ rooms: Las habitaciones de los muchachos.

A. PRONOMBRES PERSONALES

I (yo) me (por mí, para mí, a mí, conmigo, de mí)
You (tú) you (por ti, para ti, a ti, contigo, de ti)

6. EL VERBO EN INGLÉS
6.1. CONCEPTO
TAMadrid
31
A. VERBO PRINCIPAL
negar (Con la excepción de los verbos TO BE y TO HAVE que no necesitan verbo auxiliar
para negar o preguntar).
Tomemos como ejemplo el verbo principal: TO EAT: COMER.
Tendríamos:
I eat: yo como I don’t eat: yo no como
You eat: tú comes You don’t eat: tú no comes
He eats: él come He doesn’t eat: él no come
She eats: ella come She doesn’t eat: ella no come
It eats: él (animal) come It doesn’t it: él (animal) no come
We eat: nosotros comemos We don’t eat: nosotros no comemos.
You eat: vosotros coméis You don’t eat: vosotros no coméis
They eat: ellos comen They don’t eat: ellos no comen
Para formar la oración interrogativa, también usamos el verbo DO o DOES como
auxiliar, exceptuando también las oraciones cuyo verbo principal es TO BE o TO HAVE

The teacher speaks slowly (El profesor habla despacio)
You look absolutely fabulous! (¡Estás absolutamente fabulosa!)
She played the violin extremely well.

It is a fast car. (adjetivo) (Es un coche rápido)
He drives very fast. (adverbio) ( El conduce muy rápido)
This is a hard exercise. (adjetivo) ( Es un ejercicio duro)
He works hard. (adverbio) (El trabaja duro)
We saw many high buildings. (adjetivo) (Vimos muchas construcciones altas)
The bird flew high in the sky.
Ejemplos:
He is a good student. (el es un buen estudiante)
He studies well. (El estudia bien)
She is a good pianist. (Ella es una buena pianista)
She plays the piano well (Ella toca bien el piano)
They are good swimmers. ( Son unos buenos nadadores)
They swim well. (Ellos nadan bien)

7.3. CLASIFICACIÓN
CLASES DE ADVERBIOS:
– De modo (adverbs of manner):
aunque existen excepciones: well (bien) aloud (en voz alta)
objeto:
He swims well (El nada bien)
She spoke softly, loudly,...
He gently woke the sleeping woman. (Despertó suavemente a la mujer que
dormía)

– In-: El prefijo “in” proviene del Latín y posee dos posible significaciones. Su primer
significado es “no” y suele acompañar a adjetivos calificativos. Así pues, inactive
significa “no activo” o inaccurate significa “no preciso”.
normalmente a adjetivos (self-conscious, self-employed, self-governing) o nombres
(self-confidence, self-improvement, self-satisfaction).
TAMadrid
49
carne...).
Suele acompañar a adjetivos.
