Performance Notes
It is not surprising that the “Ubi Caritas” has become a traditional hymn for the Holy Thursday liturgy. When
Jesus told his friends to love one another, he knew that if they were to truly understand the profound meaning of
this new commandment, he must give them an example. And so, he got down on his knees to wash their feet and
became their servant. Where Love Is Found, based on the “Ubi Caritas” hymn, reminds us that wherever we see
this kind of love, we see the face of God.
This simple hymn has various uses. Without doubt, this hymn is appropriate during the washing of feet or the
communion rite for Holy Thursday. But its theme fits many other occasions, especially weddings, commitment
ceremonies, and anniversaries.
Keep the accompaniment and instrumentation clear and unobtrusive. On the recording, you hear a harp-like
instrument providing the accompaniment and a single flute adding decoration.
