Math:
This week in math workshop, we worked on Grab and Count 2 Handfuls, Roll & Record 3 (using a dot cube and
a number cube), and Inventory Bags. These activities are helping us work on accurately tracking bigger
numbers, 10-20. These numbers tend to be more challenging since they do not follow the same pattern as
counting 21, 22, 23 or 31, 32, 33, etc. We also have been working on story problems that have
combining/joining sums (addition) or separating/taking away sums (subtraction). We first listen to the story and
try to picture in our mind what is happening in the story, and then we find ways to solve it. Some of us chose to
draw the actual objects from the story, some used tally marks, and others used shapes to represent. After we
solved it individually, we were able to share our reasoning and solutions.
Science/Social Studies:
In our content block, we learned about George Washington – his birthday was the 22nd! We also learned he
was the 1st president in the United States of America. During Genius Hour, we experimented with water to see
which way it would flow: up or down. We worked in small groups to build our own water slides only using tape,
straws, tinfoil, and paper roll tubes. We were thankful for the warm weather to take our water play outside!
