Kedarnath, one of the four Chota Char Dhams in Uttarakhand is also one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India and it is one of the highly visited Shiv
Darshan sites in India. Travelling up to Gaurikund, the nearest motorable location, is a breeze and highly enjoyable but the last part is the toughest.
You have to trek over steep winding mountain path to reach the temple.

Delhi to Kedarnath
The simplest way is to board a bus that will take you all the way to Gaurikund from Delhi. Such buses usually take you to Haridwar and Rishikesh and
thereon to Devprayag, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, Agastmuni and nally Gaurikund. The distance from Delhi to Kedarnath is 447 km if you travel by NH 58.
If you use part of NH 109, the distance reduces to 443 Km. The longer route that takes you across NH1, NH58 and NH 109 will extend the distance to
476 km.

Gaurikund-Kedarnath trek: 14 km.

New Route to Kedarnath

Since the existing roads were badly damaged in the oods of 2013 a new route was developed. The existing route from Gaurikund to Kedarnath goes
via Rambara and the distance is 14 km. This route has better facilities along the road and it is scenic as well.

The alternate route is from Sonprayag to Kedarnath. This involves a longer trek of 22 km or slightly more. It bypasses Gaurikund and Rambara and
takes you along the Vasuki Tal Trail to Kedarnath. Another alternative proposed is to drive to Chaumasi from Guptkashi. From here onwards one treks
34 km across Kham Bugyal and Reka Bugyal. It takes two days to reach Kedarnath should one follow this trail.

Kedarnath Route Map from Major Cities of India

Anyone, anywhere in India can make a pilgrimage to Kedarnath. Whether you arrive from Porbandar or from Chennai or Chandigarh, you will reach
Haridwar, if you take a train, which is quite convenient and affordable. From Haridwar, you follow the regular route to Kedarnath, usually by road.

Chennai to Kedarnath is a distance of 1968 km. There are no direct trains or ights. You can y to Chandigarh or Delhi and proceed by road. If you
travel by train, you take the Dehradun Express to Haridwar.

Ahmedabad to Kedarnath travel is more or less similar in that you can travel to Delhi or Haridwar by ight or by train. Of course you can hire a coach or
a private taxi to take you to Kedarnath but you still arrive at Haridwar. Kedarnath is at a distance of 1069 km from Ahmedabad. You can travel by
Haridwar Mail from Ahmedabad and cover the remaining distance by road.

Hyderabad is 1480 km from Kedarnath. You can take a ight from Hyderabad to Delhi and then join a Kedarnath tour. Traveling by train is a better
option since you can take the Duronto Express to Delhi. .

Kolkata to Kedarnath is a distance of 1292 km but you will rst have to travel to Haridwar. The most affordable way is to travel by the Kumbha Express
to Haridwar and then complete the journey by road. You can y to Dehradun Jolly Grant airport and from there, travel by road, following the usual
route.

Distance between Mumbai and Kedarnath is 1435 Km. As for other locations; you must rst travel to Haridwar. You can y to Dehradun or to Delhi and
then complete the journey by road. You can take the Garib Rath train to Delhi and then onwards by bus or taxi.
