Scope and Delimitation

The research study focuses on the evaluation and determination of the different

water quality parameters and subjecting these values by selected statistical methods of

Asin-Galiano River in Tuba, Benguet. Undertakings in the completion of this study will

cover the collection and identification of the data on water quality through standard

experimental methods. This study will focus on the available water quality data provided

by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources–Cordillera Administrative

Region (DENR-CAR) for the year 2014-2016 as a basis, which focuses on the following

parameters, are as follows: a) On-site parameters which include pH, EC, DO, and

Temperature, b) Physico-Chemical Parameters which includes TSS, TDS,BOD,

Phosphates, and Ammonia, and lastly c) Bacteriological Properties which includes Total

Coliform and Fecal Coliform. In addition, this study will only encompass five sampling

points along the aforementioned river, namely, a.) Atad Hanging Bridge b) Asin Hotspring

Bridge, c) Lumecneng Creek, d.) Coplo Bridge and e.) Nangalisan Hanging Bridge. These

sampling points are selected as reference to the available sampling points that was

provided having the concerned data for the year 2014-2016 and thus are also adopted

by the researchers to be determined experimentally from September to November for the

present year which fits within the 3rd and 4th quarter of the year, 2017. The frequency of

sampling done by the researchers was limited only to five times due to the time constrains

met by the researchers and unexpected inclement weather conditions during the

sampling, prioritizing the safety of the researchers. In depth analysis of the outside factors

that may have affected the values of each of the parameters are not identified and tacked

by the researchers in this study.

Recommendation

In addition to the study conducted, future undertakings revolving similar to the

study may also be done to have a continuous assessment of the river. This study may

also help other researches in terms of identifying underlying factors could have affected

the data gathered, such as the correlations of significant pairs of parameters determined

by the researchers, namely pH - temperature, pH - TSS, EC - Ammonia, turbidity –

phosphate, and TDS – BOD. New methods may be realized in dealing with these

correlations. Frequencies of sampling may also be manipulated, to have an extended

number of results to be analyzed and treated to have a substantial amount of data that

gives an increased amount of monitoring and acquired data to check its overall

consistency.

Further observations and maintenance may also be arranged as to make this

research as a basis for continuous monitoring of the river selected. Other factors may

also take be into account that could have affected these values and might also affect them

in the future, as some factors that could be studied are anthropogenic factors, land use,

land changes, and any other factors that could have given an influence to each of the

parameters data as presented in which these can be a point of research in the future.

The researchers recommends to include additional parameters on future studies

along the river, such as sulfates and nitrates, which may visibly alter the river’s water

quality considering many resorts as well as agricultural land areas are present within the

locale of the river and will definitely add more information regarding the status of the river,

and also some inclusions of other sampling points within the tributaries of the river for

greater accessibility and overall assessment of the river.
