Electric pumps will be installed in each well. The pumps will be powered from a power station
control (PSC) with power cables commonly following the line of the discharge pipework.
The pumps will feed to a header main which shall discharge at the sea via discharge tank. The
discharge tank would allow for visual inspection of the flows and water quality testing.
Monitoring of drawdown levels will be carried out using standpipe piezometers.

4.3.2 Drilling and installation of Deepwells

Prior to drilling of deepwells the locations of the proposed wells shall be set-out by RLR JV.
Existing services on the areas shall be checked and verified that it shall not conflict with the
drilling works.
Underground utility scanning is conducted by GPR Method Refer to: M002-RLR-UTI-MES-
00002.
The wells should be drilled tight to base of the open cut perimeter.
Once the borehole is drilled a PVC casing shall be installed using a crane. A bottom plug shall
be installed on the first 6m length of casing and further 6m lengths shall be added until the
casing has reached the base of the borehole. A 5-10mm crushed gravel shall be installed in
the annulus with the depth checked periodically to ensure bridging is not occurring during the
installation.

4.3.3 Development of Deepwells

Following well drilling and installation of the well liner and gravel pack well development would
commence.
An airline would be placed down the well, approximately 1–2 m from the base. The airline
would be connected to a compressor. The well would then be pumped on by airlift for a
minimum period of 1 hour or until the discharge water is free of drilling mud and/or fines;
The airline would then be lifted in 2.0 m intervals and pumped on for at least 15 minutes at
each level to the top of the screened section of the well or for a minimum period of 2 hours.

4.3.4 Installation of pumps

An electric submersible pump would be installed in each well with the pump inlet located near
the base of the well. The pump would be suspended by 2no safety support ropes. The electric
drop cable from the submersible pump would be connected at ground level to an isolator
switch. The pumps would be lowered into the wells using the safety support rope and crane.
An armoured rubber flexible hose or UPVC riser pipe shall then connect the head works to the
discharge pipework. A check valve and automatic non return valve would be fitted at ground
level.
If the pumps need to be removed for maintenance or other reasons the pumps would be
removed either using a crane or other suitable lifting equipment. Please refer to Appendix G
for illustrations.
For Lifting Plan Please refer to Appendix N.

4.3.5 Installation of header pipework and discharge pipework

The discharge pipework shall be installed around the excavation perimeter with take offs at
each well location. A check valve and automatic non return valve would be fitted at each pump
head works.

Once installed the header pipework shall be suitably protected by RLR JV to ensure no
damage can occur from site traffic or personnel.
Wherever the discharge pipework crosses haul roads / site access the pipework’s should have
additional protection measures in place suitable to each site specific condition. The discharge
pipework shall be laid to the specified discharge location and the groundwater shall discharge
via a booster station connected to a water clarifier. The discharge tank would allow for visual
inspection of the flows and water quality testing.

4.3.6 Power Station Controls

The electrical controls and protection for the pumping system shall be located in the power
station controls (PSC). The PSC’s house the pump starters, generator switchgear and alarm
system.
All pump cables shall be steel-wire armoured to provide protection against accidental damage.
A changeover switch in each PSC connected to the duty generator and standby generator that
shall allow the standby to cut in automatically in the event of a power failure.
The PSC shall be linked to the pump in each well by armoured cable with plug/socket
connections located at the well head works. The power cables shall be steel wire armoured
and be laid on the surface commonly following the line of the discharge pipework. Also the
PSC shall include an alarm system which shall be triggered by a single pump stoppage or
generator failure. The alarm system shall be comprised of a visual warning light on the cabin
and an audio alarm.

4.3.7 Installation of trenches and sumps

During the final stages of the excavation, trenching and sumps may be employed to
supplement the deepwell system in order to control any surface water or overbleed water
which may be encountered where there are change in soil layers.
Upon installation of trenches pumps should be turned off. After trench excavation water should
be allowed to settle down before switching on the pumps again.
Trenches approximately 0.5m wide x 1m deep would be excavated along the perimeter of the
excavation and this would connect to the deepwells or additional sump pits. Any additional
sump pits would be filled with crushed and washed aggregates to serve as a filter for fine
materials.

7.1 Environmental Criteria
A petrol station is located approximately 500m outside the boundary of RLRNEAG, to the
South of the Cut and Cover Tunnel section. Based on the historical water quality data
presented in the Environmental Impact Assessment of RLNEAG, and ground water analysis
commissioned by RLR (at Cut and Cover Tunnel Section), contamination is not inherent within
the alignment of the project.
The subcontractor must inform RLR immediately if any suspected ground or soil
contamination is suspected. Specialist advice will be sought by RLR in the event that such
suspicion is encountered and confirmed.
The environmental manager in coordination with the health and safety manager shall ensure
that the tool box talks include aspects of the environment particular to the work execution.
The site team including subcontractors shall implement the following general environmental
control measures:
a. Oil spillage or such other contaminants shall be informed to supervisors and
treated as soon as possible;
b. Equipment shall be inspected for leaks on arrival on Site,
c. Plant and equipment shall be maintained regularly preventing spillage on site;
d. For static equipment drip trays are mandatory;
e. Where excavation is required any suspected contamination (material of unusual
color and smell) shall be reported immediately to the environmental manager;
f. The environmental monitoring requirements are addressed in Section 4.3.8

7.2 Environmental Spills

Spills / Leaks into the ground; Spills into nearby drainage systems; Over spilling when re-fuelling
plant; Lack of supervision; Improper storage & fire
a) Person’s fuelling up plant equipment shall not over fill;
b) Store / Fill equipment far away from water courses;
c) Keep drip tray under re-fuelling tank;
d) Persons in charge of plant equipment shall monitor these activities – ensuring no such
incidents occur, if any spills – reporting/cleaning up shall be carried out immediately.
Emergency response procedures will be implemented as per the Hazardous Materials
Management and Emergency Response Plan (M002-RLR-EMS-PLN-00017) and Pollution
Incident Management Plan (M002-RLR-EMS-PLN-00006).
The following steps shall be followed in the event of an environmental incident
Step 1 – Contamination
a) Identify specific environmental/safety hazards such as contaminants in dewatering
water (oil any chemicals) if found;
b) Close off areas to prevent traffic or public access;
c) Locate and use personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, glasses, helmet,
safety footwear;
d) In case of dewatering water contaminants (fuel or any chemicals) pose a significant
risk to the community, call Civil Defence (Fire) on telephone 999;

e) Take other actions as necessary to create safe conditions (for example, stop all
smoking and remove ignition sources) if dewatering water contaminants are
flammable; and
f) Consult Environmental Manager / Engineer Representative for further advice.
Step 2 – Stop the Source
Where simple, ongoing incidents are continuing to cause environmental impacts, identify the
cause, and if it is safe to do so, stop or limit the incident from occurring (for larger, dangerous
or complex incidents go straight to Step 3),
Step 3 – Notify Relevant Parties
It is mandatory to notify the following parties immediately (after or as part of making the
incident site safe):
a) Notification site management, as per any EMP requirements;
Step 4 – Control the Incident
Take immediate action (determine personnel, materials and equipment necessary) to prevent
or limit environmental harm that has occurred or that may occur as a result of the incident.
a) Where warranted due to the severity or nature of the incident, work would be halted at
incident scenes in order to begin the incident investigation in an un-tampered
environment;
b) Deploy fuel spill clean-up materials (from spill kits), such as absorbent particulate
matter or absorbent mats if any oil/chemical contaminants from dewatering water
found;
c) Get extra waste skips delivered, for temporary storage of contaminated soil or other
waste associated with the clean-up.
Step 5 – Reporting the Incident
When the incident is under control, and initial clean-up or prevention measures have been
implemented, the JV would complete the following:
a) Monitor any controls that have been put in place for the incident, for example,
absorbent materials used in fuel spill clean-up would require changing when fully
saturated;
b) Carry out an incident investigation and document it. The basic cause of the incident
would be identified, and the corresponding preventative actions determined;
c) All incidents would be thoroughly investigated to determine all root and supporting
cause(s). All witnesses to the incident would provide statements and all data,
monitoring records, medical reports, etc. pertinent to the incident or the suspected
cause(s) would be taken into account and included in the investigation report;

LAMELLA WATER CLARIFIER

Hydroserv lamella water clarifiers use inclined plate technology for gravity settling of
sediment laden water and are suitable for a wide variety of applications. Varying sizes
are available and each clarifier is sized to meet project specific requirements to
ensure maximum results and highest efficiencies.

Current Hydroserv clarifiers have an operating capacity range from 1-200m3/hr with
each size having an optimal capacity flow. Flow can be increased or decreased
accordingly dependent on influent settling rates and discharge limits required.

Unit Length Width Surface Area Optimal Capacity

53m2 58m3/hr

HYDROSERV LAMELLA WATER CLARIFIER

HSC1 3.63m 1.45m
HSC2 4.73m 1.95m 112m2 121m3/hr

The inclined plate technology provides a greater surface area for settling solids while
only a minimal site footprint is required and no compromise on discharge quality. The
performance of a lamella water clarifier is dependent on several variables including:

• Total Suspended Solids (TSS)

• Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)
• Volume of water
• Shape and size of particles present

The influent enters the unit at the inlet and

flows downward through the inlet chamber in
the centre, enters the plates through
openings in the sides and flows upwards
between the inclined plates. Between each
of the plates, the fluid has a low velocity,
laminar flow profile which encourages the remaining solids to settle on the plate
surface, where they tumble by gravity down to a sludge collection hopper.

As the solids are settling on the plate

surfaces, the fluid is moving upward through
the plates and clarified effluent exits the top
of the settler at the opposite end. At the same
time the sludge collects in the hopper which
is periodically drawn from the bottom of the
clarifier for disposal off site. The frequency of
sludge removal is dependent on flow rate and
the amount of TSS in the influent.

With a number of units deployed across

Qatar, both our operations and design teams
can fully assist in meeting your project needs
and size requirements on request.

1 OVERVIEW
The discharge line and the installation of booster station with the capability to discharge up to 110l/s
along the proposed discharge route for Red Line North Elevated and at Grade Project.

2 FLOW RATE
The estimated flow rate and specification are provided in the table below.

Description Unit Quantity

Flow l/s 110

Total Discharge Distance m 6076

Discharge Line A m 986

Discharge Line B m 3876

Duration months 10

Note: Flow Rates are based on Appendix C.

3 PIPE SIZE
For design purposes the length has been increased by a factor of safety of 1.5 to allow for
additional head losses from bends required at the crossing or other obstructions that are likely
to occur due to the temporary nature of the works. This equivalent length is the basis of our
design estimation. Ground water through discharge line A will be delivered by a booster pump,
while at discharge line B, flow would be just by gravity.

Description Unit Quantity

Duration (Assumed) months 10

The strategy for the selection of the pipework is risk based rather than say economic or resource
based. Therefore the design is based on robust HDPE discharge lines.
The various parameters considered for the selection of the pipework is given below:

 Pipework material, HDPE SDR 17 (6 bar pressure rating);
 Designed discharge flow rate 110 l/s;
 Diameter of the discharge line to be installed;

Accurate prediction of friction losses in pipe is a complex matter involving many variables. In
Civil Engineering applications, the Hazen Williams formula is typically used to calculate friction
losses through water conveying pipe. The formula is as follows:

hf (m/100m) = 608,704,45

x
( Q C )1.85
L/min

dmm4.8655
Where
C = roughness coefficient, 140 for HDPE
Q = flow per pipe 110 l/s
d = internal diameter of the pipe,

Dear Ms. Hafner,

With reference to the above mentioned subject and M/s RLR's request, ACTS has
determined the estimated total water flow needed from t he attenuation tank and the
underpass P60.
The ava ilable information of the s ubmitted geotechnic a l factual reports (With Ref.
QJ420-03-15/12803L/Rev02 dated May 30, 2015 and QJ420-03-15/ 13478L/Rev02
dated November 08, 2015) were used in the current design.
The calculations take into account details given in the drawings provided by M/s RLR
in their document (ref.: M002-RLR -STR-DWG-RNCB080-M-09113 and M002-RLR-STR-
DWG-R NH1060-AA-15012 ). Below table summar izes all given parameters that are
used in the current ca lculations.

Dewatering design at the attenuation tank and the underpass P60

The following criteria were considered in the flow determ ination:

• A drop down of the groundwater below the excavation bottom by O.Sm to
l.Om was considered.
• Increasing the calculated pumped quantity by SO% to consider the preparation
(startup) time and yield required.
Dewatering design was made according to "NAVY NAVFAC P-418- Chapter 4- Figures
4.13 and 4.14" document guidelines. The estimated total f low of the pumps installed
at the attenuation tank and the underpass section shou ld be around 30Liter/s and
70Liter/s (determined by equivalent well to excavation area), respective ly. The water
head-loss in the piping system is to be taken into consideration in the design.
In addition to the above, the following recommendations shall apply on the site:

• It is recommended to carry out pumping test or equivalent test to verify the

assumed parameters.
• Observe and record daily elevation of ground water and piezometric water
levels in an observation well.
• The contractor shall design and install a robust a nd reliable groundwater level
monitoring system (using standpipes and/or piezometers of appropriate
depths, number and locations). The system shall include automated electronic
groundwater level measurement equipment or equivalent that is capable of
indicating a minimum change of± 0.05 m in groundwater level.
• The contractor shall take all appropriate measures to cont rol the movement of
fines by using the proper screen meshes, and shall aim to have a maximum
content of fine-grained solid particulates.
• Water quality and its variation with time should be verif ied during pumping
according Qatari Ministry of Environment requirements (MOE).

BOOM LOADER TRUCK METHODLOGY

PRE OPERATION CHECK

Prior to setting up the boom loader truck, a pre operation checklist shall be completed to
determine If any defects have been reported and /or repairs have been done. Boom loader truck
is then to be inspected for defects. Any defects found are to be rectified before crane operations
are undertaken. Same also with the lifting equipment it will be inspected for damage and the
SWL properly marked.

BOOM LOADER TRUCK SET UP AND OPERATIONS

Bring the boom loader truck as close as possible to the load. Ground conditions shall be
inspected for dampness and possible cavities which may cause the outrigger to sink. Overhead
powerlines shall be taken in consideration and safe clearance must be maintained.
Work area to be barricaded to exclude unauthorized operatives and the public which may be
affected during the lifting operations. Engine switch off and ignition keys to be remove when
operator will leave the cabin.
Operator shall always have clear view of the load being lifted and no person shall be under the
load or loose materials not being secured during shifting. The load being shifted shall not be
more than safe lifting capacity of the crane. If the load is more than the safe lifting capacity of
the boom loader truck the lift should be abandoned and a higher load capacity crane shall be
used.

BOOM LOADER SLEWING

Appropriate rated lifting equipment to be used and visually inspected by the rigger for damage
any damage lifting equipment shall not be used during the lift. Lifted load with tag lines attached
and controlled by a rigger. Working radius of the boom loader truck shall be restricted of
unauthorized person. A trial lift shall be done to check if the load will not shift during lifting. Work
area to be clear of materials that may a pose a hazard during the lift.

COMPLETION OF WORK

After the lift the boom loader truck and the lifting equipment shall be inspected for defects and
to be reported to the supervisor for repair by competent person or the need to be replaced.
Lifting equipment shall be stowed properly at the truck. Loose materials, waste in the work area
shall be removed and the site restored.
