14. Why do you want to be a Cook County judge?

I spent 4 ½ years as an assistant state’s attorney observing the daily impact that a judge has upon
the people that come before the judge as well as the sheriffs, police officers, clerks and others that
the judge interacts with on a daily basis. I’ve long admired the work that they do. For me
personally, I want to feel like I am making an impact as a public servant.

15. What are the most pressing issues facing the justice system and why?

In criminal matters, it is the balancing of rights of the defendants and the victims. This can lead
to a lengthy process that can wear out victims. In the civil arena, the speedy resolution of matters
remains at the forefront. With each continuance, an additional cost is made across the entire
system from the court budget to the litigants themselves.

16. How will your experiences help you serve as a good judge?
From a professional perspective, years as a litigator has taught me how important it is to listen to
people when they speak. Too often, people try to anticipate where an argument is going and lose
the point completely.

17. What do you wish voters knew about you?

I’m the widowed father of four (ages 16,13,11,9). My wife Nancy’s passing almost two
years ago reinforced for me how short of a time we have to make an impact in life. The
outpouring of support the community showed to my family was incredible and humbling.
If I’m fortunate enough to be elected, I’ll bring a real sense of humility to the bench.
