41. Are there any pets?

Preguntas con there is – there are

Objetivo: formular y responder preguntas con las estructuras there is – there are,
teniendo en cuenta elementos de su entorno, y con un vocabulario sencillo.
•Para hacer preguntas se aplican los mentefacto para hacer oraciones interrogativas
con el verbo TO BE, recordando que en el presente y pasado simple no se emplea
auxiliar y en futuro se utiliza el auxiliar Will.
•Para hacer preguntas en presente y pasado, se invierte la estructura y en futuro se
utiliza el auxiliar will.

Presente:
•Is there + complemento?
•Are there + complemento?
Pasado:
•Was there + complemento?
•Were there + complemento?
Futuro:
•Will there be + complemento?
Ejemplos:

Presente:
¿hay una fiesta? Is there a party?
¿Hay tres fiestas? Are there three parties?

Pasado:
¿había un invitado? Was there a guest?
¿Había cuatro invitados? Were there four guests?

Futuro:
¿habrá un payaso? Will there be a clown?
¿Habrán dos payasos? Will there be two clowns?
•Las respuestas a estas preguntas se hacen utilizando la misma estructura, ya sea en
forma afirmativa o negativa, precedida de las palabras YES o NO, respectivamente.

Ejemplo:
♦Is there any juice?
Yes, there is. No, there is not.

♦Were there any apples?

Yes, there were. No, there were not.

♦Will there be a party?

Yes, there will be No, there will not be (won’t be)
•La palabra any (algo de, algún, alguna, algunos, algunas, ningún, etc.) es habitual
como complemento de la expresión there is – there are, en las forma negativa e
interrogativa.

Ejemplo:
¿Hay algunos almacenes cerca de aquí?
Are there any stores near here?

No, no hay ningún almacén cerca de aquí

No , there aren’t any stores near here

Hay algo de leche?

Is there any milk?
Yes, there is some milk. (Sí, hay algo de leche.)
No, there isn’t any milk. (No, no hay nada de leche.)
 • Practice: Complete las siguientes oraciones con there is/are o there isn’t/aren’t. Tenga
en cuenta los símbolos:  para afirmativo y  para negativo.

• Practice: Observe la imagen. Trabaje con un compañero y haga 6 oraciones usando las
estructuras vistas en clase. Mire el ejemplo:

•There are two cows on the farm.

•There is a cat on the fence and there

is a dog on the grass.

• The are two horses, they are faster

than the cows.
 • Practice: Escriba un párrafo acerca de un lugar al que haya ido recientemente. Use las
estructuras trabajadas en clase.

We went to the park yesterday. There were many flowers

and some big trees. There weren’t many people and the
chairs were empty…

Nosotros fuimos al parque ayer. Había muchas flores rojas y

unos árboles grandes. No había mucha gente y las sillas
estaban vacías….

Cree preguntas con la estructura trabajada acerca del texto anterior. Luego, trabaje con un
