affects individual and social functioning across
socioeconomic and cultural populations. In low-income
primarily African American children, aggressive or
socially negative behavior early in the first semester of
Head Start classrooms reflected emotion dysregulation.

Solution Proposed
The concepts and techniques that promote emotion
knowledge, emotion regulation, and emotion utilization have
proved effective in promoting favorable behavioral outcomes
in both emotion-based and cognitive–behavioral interventions.

To do this there must be a tool to effectively monitor
emotional arousal. In Oct of 2009 a company started offering
such a biotech device to measure emotional arousal with great
effectiveness. The senor can be comfortably worn around the
wrist for a long period of time This biotech device can be used
as biofeedback device to identify factors that will advance the
youth development.

Using Biofeedback Device as a Solution

 What is a Biofeedback Device?

 Is a device that measures selected physiology parameters.
 The biofeedback method was invented in 1962 by Donald Shearn by
measuring operant condition of heart rate. operant conditioning deals
with the modification of "voluntary behavior" or operant behavior.
 How is Biofeedback Device currently used?
 Most of the current use of Biofeedback device is to improve human
health and have been used for last 40 years. Example Migraine
headaches, Disorders of the digestive system,High/low blood pressure
Cardiac arrhythmias, Raynaud's disease, Epilepsy, Paralysis and other
movement disorders. Now it can also be used as communication aid to
individual with Autism, Sleep monitoring, Infant monitoring
Psychiatric Drug &Behavioral Outcomes, Stress, addiction, PTSD etc.

Why use it for to aid youth development?

 Many youth struggle with emotions, not only because of lack of

knowledge but also lack of awareness due to other daily activities. If we
can help them identify trouble spots their knowledge of emotion and
emotion regulation is enhance does future intervention is prevented.

Problems and Challenges

 How do we determine if the offender is a good candidate for

biofeedback device base behavior modifications?
 Parents or legal guardian must allow the use of biofeedback
device for the Youth Development.
 Youth must consent the use of such a device.

Form a partnership with Non-profit organization like
WIA develop a program for youth development specially
for African American male between age 8 to 25 that can
benefit from use of wearable senor to measure stressor in
their lives, whether physical, emotional or cogitative
stressor.
Educate the youth on emotion knowledge and
emotion regulation making them more emotional
competent then without the use of the bio sensors

 Youth now have opportunity to identify what is
causing their behavior problem and then make
correction or behavior modifications as necessary.
 Parents now have more objective perspective of
their child emotional development.
 Development of Youth is Accelerated due to better
emotional competence and they become better
