Research and Development

At Alkem we understand the importance of Research & Development and

its impact on the goodwill of the business and the society overall. For this
very reason we have intensified our focus on R&D with the help of
proficient R&D teams back by state-of-the-art infrastructure and
technology, in all areas of generic research as a short to medium term
strategy. Generic drug development encompasses both, small and large
molecules.

We strongly believe that opportunities in the highly competitive global

markets are very attractive and this implies not just in vanilla generics, but
also in value added and difficult to develop complex generics. Our
business goals are backed by setting up of the latest manufacturing
operations that will enable us to comply with the regulatory standards in
advanced markets. Focus on the generics business strategy will provide us
a sustainable model to move up the value chain. Today, the Alkem R & D
Team can proudly boast of a group of over 300 R & D scientists, with
exceptional credentials in all fields of drug development to propel the
organisation and reach its objectives.

Our generic drug development is at par with regards to international

quality standards and speed attributes as all the fields of research have
been conducted within the same campus, situated at Taloja, Navi
Mumbai. We can proudly claim our own 60 bed bioavailability and
bioequivalence testing facilities that could meet up to the standards of the
regulatory agencies, including US FDA, MHRA, TGA and ANVISA
Brazil. Backward integration through in-house API development and
front-end efficient marketing/distribution of products provides the desired
impetus to the generics program from lab scale development to
commercialisation.

We have a substantial amount of resources set aside for the development

of Novel Drug Delivery Systems. This shall be the key element in
providing momentum to consolidate our objectives of value addition.

We at Alkem, wish to be known as pioneers in the drug discovery area in

the near future. We are currently looking into various models and
therapeutic segments to carve out a meaningful space in the arena of
medical needs that are not yet fulfilled. So far we have in-licensed a
number of products through international collaborations for the local
markets and we shall continue to provide the most advanced therapy
avenues for our Indian patients.

We also collaborate with renowned Indian Universities and Indian

Companies for the development of difficult-to-make products and the
development of other unique technologies. We are well on our way in the
Nutraceutical Segment of healthcare and wellness. Nutraceutical R & D
efforts are mainly directed towards providing low fat and low calorie
nutritional products for the better management of health. We have achieved
tremendous success in this area of research and development. We are
writing our own future upon appropriate and timely protection of our R &
D efforts. A number of patent applications are emerging from the in-house
innovations which have gone on to be filed.

Our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility is located at Taloja, Mumbai

where we carry out most advance research. Research at Alkem is guided by
