Procedure: The Counselor will establish a Response to Intervention Program to address and improve the 8 grade
th
math score on the PARCC exam utilizing PARCC scores from last year’s 7 graders. To further enhance the RTI
th
program, counselors will conduct a note-taking lesson with 8 graders. Students will be asked to begin class, "How do
you take notes?" Counselor will cold call on students to share their answers with class. Counselor will then introduce and
give example of taking Cornell Notes. Counselor will run through a mock note taking lecture. 4 poster papers will be
placed around the classroom with questions about the purpose of a standardized note taking. Students will be placed in
groups and a carousel activity will begin with the groups discussing the question at their original place or "station." After
the groups go around and to discuss all questions, class will come back and share the best answers to the questions per
stations. Class will complete 321 Exit Slip, which will ask students to share 3 things they learned, 2 things they found
interesting, and one question they still have.
Plan for Evaluation: How will each of the following be collected? Counselor will collect date and log in a tracking
system (Excel Microsoft) to monitor throughout the year. Probes before and after can also be kept in a binder for review.
