Selevideo 10K Operating Manual 9

Manual Mode

In manual mode the user can operate all functions of the keypad such as zoom, focus and iris, split
screen image comparison, Y axis up and down and X axis left and right. It also allows for system
parameter programming.

If the user knows the press well they will know which part of the web to keep their eye on to ensure
printed defects are kept to a minimum. Using manual mode with both the zoom and split screen
functions they should be able to track and catch problems when they arise.

To enter manual mode operation look at the monitor screen and make sure that the icon shown is
the Manual Icon. If it is not, then press the ‘Operating Mode’ key until manual mode is selected.

Your Selevideo 10K web inspection system will always boot up into ‘Manual Mode’ and allow the
user full operation of the system.

Hyperstrobe
To make navigation around the web easier and more intuitive, the Hyperstrobe feature
automatically increases the flash rate when moving around the web in Manual mode. This means
that a more fluid motion is attained.

This feature is most effective when the printing press is running at a high speed.

Automatic Constant Scan (ACS)

ACS allows 100% scanning of the repeat in both X Axis (across) and Y Axis (along) the web.

Note: Scanning in the X Axis direction is only possible with systems having a motorised
traverse.

Selevideo 10K system has various mode of ACS and allow the operator to choose the most
appropriate scanning pattern for the job being printed. To further help the operator achieve
optimum scanning results, the parameters that control the scan pattern can be changed
dynamically as the job is being viewed.

ACS modes are started quickly and simply by pressing the Operating Mode button once.

Any time that an ACS mode is active, the keypad Menu button function changes to display or hide
the ACS control menu.

To stop any of the ACS modes and revert to Manual operation, simply press the Operating Mode
button again. The system operation will return to manual control and also the Menu button will
revert to displaying / hiding the standard menu controls.

Selevideo 10K Operating Manual 10

Dynamic ACS controls

When in ACS mode and the ACS menu is displayed the following controls can be used to optimise
the scanning pattern.

Dwell. The dwell control adjusts how many images are taken of the web at any part of the
scan before moving on to the next position. Use the up / down keypad keys to select the
Dwell control then use the left / right buttons to change the value.

Y Step. The Y Step control adjusts how far the camera jumps between images in the Y
direction of the scan pattern. The value is in gear teeth. Use the up / down keypad keys to
select the Y Step control then use the left / right buttons to change the value.

X Step. (Only on Motorised Systems). The X Step control adjusts how far the camera
jumps between images in the X direction of the scan pattern. Use the up / down keypad
keys to select the X Step control then use the left / right buttons to change the value.

ACS Scanning Modes

When the ACS button is pressed and the ACS menu is displayed, the first icon on the menu shows
which ACS scan pattern is currently selected. The scan pattern can easily be changed using the
left / right arrow keys on the keypad. Scroll through the scanning patterns until the required pattern
is selected. All scanning patterns are described further below.

Vertical ACS with Manual Traverse

To enter Vertical ACS mode from Manual Mode, press the ‘Operating Mode’ key once and select
the Vertical ACS option from the menu.

When the Vertical ACS program is activated the Web Inspection system
will start to scroll along the repeat length flashing and taking images
according to the Y Axis movement and the Dwell rate.

The Y axis movement is measured in gear teeth, and is changed whilst in

ACS mode. The larger the Y Axis setting the larger the image jump.

To change the operating settings of the ACS mode use the Up / Down
arrow keys to select the required parameter and change the value using
the keypad Left and Right arrow buttons.

Scan Pattern: Changes between Vertical ACS and Label Checking patterns.
Y-Step: Changes the step size along the web direction between each image.
Dwell: Changes the number of images taken at each new position on the web.

Selevideo 10K Operating Manual 11

Vertical ACS with Motorised Traverse

ACS with motorised traverse is started in the same way as above, by pressing the
'Operating Mode' key once on the keypad. If not already shown, select the Vertical
ACS mode from the ACS menu.

When operating with a motorised traverse the Vertical ACS scan pattern scans the
whole repeat with a bias on movement in the Y Axis. The camera will step along
the web (Y Step) stopping at each position to take between 1 and 10 images
(Dwell). When the camera reaches the end of the print repeat will advance across
the web by the setting in the (X Step) parameter.

To change the pattern parameters, scroll down the menu using the keypad Up and
Down buttons to select the required parameter and change its value using the
keypad Left and Right arrow buttons.

Scan Pattern: Changes between Horizontal ACS, Vertical ACS and Label Checking patterns.
Y-Step: Changes the step size along the web direction.
X-Step: Changes the step size across the web direction.
Dwell: Changes the number of images taken at each new position on the web.

Horizontal ACS

Horizontal ACS with motorised traverse is started in the same way as the other
ACS modes, by pressing the 'Operating Mode' key once on the keypad. If not
already shown, select the Horizontal ACS mode from the ACS menu.

When operating with a motorised traverse the Horizontal ACS scan pattern scans
the whole repeat with a bias on movement in the X Axis. The camera will step
across the web (X Step) stopping at each position to take between 1 and 10
images (Dwell). When the camera reaches the web edge the camera will advance
along the web by the setting in the (Y Step) parameter.

To change the pattern parameters, scroll down the menu using the keypad Up and Down buttons
to select the required parameter and change its value using the keypad Left and Right arrow
buttons.

Scan Pattern: Changes between Horizontal ACS, Vertical ACS and Label Checking patterns.
Y-Step: Changes the step size along the web direction.
X-Step: Changes the step size across the web direction.
Dwell: Changes the number of images taken at each new position on the web.

Selevideo 10K Operating Manual 12

Label Checking ACS

ACS program will allow the user to check each label along the repeat length.
Before using this scan mode the 'Labels per repeat' parameter must be set in the main Job Menu.

If the Labels per repeat is set and the Automatic Label Checking mode
selected, the camera image will update in the exact position on each label
around the repeat. This gives the effect of the same label being viewed with
each image, but in fact each image shows a different label on the repeat. The
captured image will therefore show an immediate change should one label
differ from another.

To enter Automatic Label Checking mode press the ‘Operating Mode’ key
once, and if not already selected, select the Label Checking mode icon from
the ACS menu.

Note: Label checking mode only works in the Y-axis i.e. along the web.

When in Label Checking Mode the camera position on the label can be adjusted using the arrow
keys, just like in Manual mode.

Split Screen

Split screen operation allows for image comparison. Image comparison will allow the operator to
check colour quality throughout the print run and to check deviations in register.

Using the split screen feature will ensure that waste is reduced efficiently.

To enter split screen mode press the split screen key on the remote keypad. The image will split
and stay split until the key is pressed once more. This will restore the image to full screen mode.
Split Screen can be used in any mode of operation including Constant Scan and Label Checking.

Register Mark Memory (Store/Recall)

This function is intended to be used to store the position of a register mark along the web. It can be
used to store any position of interest. At any time during the normal print run, a single button can
be pressed, and the camera will move immediately to the stored position.

To use, first navigate the camera to look at the register mark.

Then, press and hold the ‘Position Store/Recall’ key. After about 2 seconds, the Gear icon on the
status bar of the screen will change to an icon of a gear with a register mark. This shows that the
position of the register mark has been stored.

At any stage of the print-run, pressing the ‘Position Store/Recall’ key will put the Operating Mode
into Manual, and go to the stored gear tooth firing number.

Selevideo 10K Operating Manual 13

Manual Systems: The position storage only refers to the gear tooth firing number, and not the
position of the camera across the web, if position of camera across the web has changes,
manually adjust the position of the camera across the web.

Motorised Systems: Position store will also store the position of the camera across the web.

4:3 Aspect Viewing

The Selevideo 10K camera has 1920x960 pixels and threfore has a 4:3 aspect ratio. When viewed
on a widescreen (16:9 aspect ratio), the camera image would normally appear stretched
horizontally. To prevent this it is necessary to crop the top and bottom of the image so that is fits on
a widescreen monitor without distortion. This however reduces the vertical viewing area of the
camera slightly. The 4:3 aspect feature allws viewing of the complete camera image on a
widescreen monitor without either cropping or distortion.

Turning on the 4:3 aspect feature, automatically adjusts the camera image size to fit the screen
vertically. The 4:3 aspect ratio of the camera is maintained while vertical black borders are added
to pad the screen horizontally.

4:3 aspect viewing is only available on systems configured for use with wide screens.

Auto Strobe

Your Selevideo 10K web inspection system incorporates a special Auto Strobe program to allow
the operator to test the system without the press running and also allow for its demonstration on
table top or off-press.

When this mode is activated, the icon appears in the Status Bar at the right side of the operating
screen.

IMPORTANT

Remember to de-activate the Autostrobe function before the system is used for normal press
operation. Go back into the system Set Up Menu, and use the Left arrow key at the Auto Strobe
setting to turn the operation to ‘Off’.
