with 70% accuracy.

Standard: Number and Operations in Base Ten

Cluster: Perform operations with multi-digit whole numbers

Objective: M.4.11 Find whole-number quotients and remainder with up to four-digit dividends and
one digit divisors, using strategies based on place value, the properties of operations and/or the
relationship between multiplication and division. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using
equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.

** While assessing teacher will pull students who need one-on-one back to round table to work with
teacher.

Lesson Reflection:

Monday I love teaching long division! Introducing the vocabulary was surprisingly harder than teaching
dividing itself. The students kept getting divisor and dividend mixed up. I gave the students a sheet that
contained the steps and also how to remember them (e.g. Dad=Divide.) This seemed to really help the
students. One difficulty I did have today, was fifith grade is also covering division, but with 2 digit
divisors. There was a few times I would write an example and then change it. I predict this lesson to go
well.
Tuesday Today we completed a lot of practice. There was a few students who were still struggling, so I
worked in small groups with these students. We went back to square one and by the end of the class
period they were getting it! The biggest struggle I saw with the students was not knowing their facts.
Students were getting the steps, but they couldn’t tell how many times their divisor went into the
numbers. For example, Students were saying 1 couldn’t go into 2 or that 6 went into 36, 3 times. I ended
up having the students review their facts tonight because they are so important.

Wednesday The students loved completing the Math Mountain game on the smartboard. I was nervous
about completing this with the fourth grade class because there are 24 students in the class, 4 of those
being special education students. However, it went well. Surprisingly the students are really into
division, so everyone was really involved.

Thursday The exit slip wen great today! Only 4 students missed it, which was the four special education
students. I was afraid this unit would take longer than a week, but we are right on track. Students are
doing well and luckily no snow days. Students completed their worksheets for a grade today and then I
had them work on their Moby Max lesson so I could complete another review with the lower students.
Even though the students are getting it I thought it was important to check in and make sure they are
ready to complete the test Monday or if we need some more intense intervention.

Friday I am excited to see how the test goes on Monday! The students are doing so well with this unit.
Even students who typically struggle are doing well. I spoke with the students about how well they are
doing and they said it is because they are able to remember the steps by thinking about dad, mom, and
so on. I am so glad those sheets and phrases were benecial!
