THE ADVANTAGES OF HAVING FAMILY PLANNING

Family planning is one of the most preventive health care and the basic key for
women, although not always recognized as such. Improvement and expansion of family
planning services is one of the efforts to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality are so high
due to pregnancy experienced by women. Many women have to make choices difficult
contraception, not only because of the limited number of available methods, but also because
of certain methods may not be accepted in connection with the national policy of family
planning, individual health and female sexuality or the cost of obtaining contraception
(Depkes RI, 1998).

Family Planning (FP) is a government program that is designed to balance the needs
and population. Family planning programs by the government is that the family as the
smallest unit of life of the nation is expected to receive a Small Family Norms Happy and
Prosperous oriented balanced growth. Indonesian National Family Planning Movement has a
very long-lived, namely the 70s and the world community considers successful in reducing
birth rates significantly. Planning a family with a number of restrictions that can be done with
the use of contraceptives such as condoms or birth prevention, spiral, IUDs, and so on.

KB stands for Family Planning. ccording to Big Indonesian Dictionary (1997), the
purpose than this is: "The movement to establish a healthy and prosperous families by
limiting births."

Family planning is an attempt to measure the number and spacing of children desired.
In order to achieve this then be made one way or alternative to prevent or delay pregnancy.

Family planning is composed of a father, a mother and 2 children. Family planning

has two objectives, namely:

1. General purpose
improving the welfare of the mother, the child in order to realize Normal Small
Happy Family Welfare which the realization of a prosperous society with birth
control while ensuring uncontrolled population growth.
2. The specific objectives
 Increase the number of people to use contraceptives
 The reduced number of birth rate.
 Increased the health of family planning by means of birth spacing

By following the advice of the government family planning program, the acceptor
will get four main advantages of optimal, both for the mother, child and family, among other
things :
 1. For mother advantages :
 Preventing unwanted pregnancies
 Prevent at least 1 of the 4 maternal deaths
 Maintaining the health of the mother
 Planning a pregnancy be programmed
2. For children advantages :
 Reduce the risk of infant mortality
 Improve the health of babies
 Prevent infant malnutrition
 Infant growth is guaranteed
 Need for exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months relative can be met
 Get quality over the maximum affection
3. For family advantages :
 Improve the welfare of the family
 Family harmonization more awake
4. For society advantages :
 Lowering sector financing maternal and child health
 Lowering the education sector financing
 Lowering the environmental control sector financing
 Lowering the pressure of population
 Lowering the discrimination of women
 Increasing the productivity of the region or state
 Increasing economic growth
 Promote gender equality

Disadvantage in the family planning program is family planning programs considered

inadequate, because not all rural neighborhood health center equipped with insfraktruktur and
expertise of family planning examination, coupled with the lack of presentation of knowledge
of family planning in rural areas, so most of the people who live in rural Indonesia still lack
knowledge about the family planning program and it’s advantages, they are still widely
assumed that a lot of kids a lot of sustenance, whereas the more advanced age and must be
balanced with the more forward thinking anyway.
