PLC Basics
Definition and history of the PLC ,Overall PLC system., Solid-state memory, I/O module
interfaces, Process scanning considerations and Faults.
Devices to which PLC is connected
Input and Output On/Off switching devices, Input and output analog devices.
Basic PLC programming
PLC input instructions Contact and coil ,I/O programming examples. Ladder diagrams and
sequence listings.
Basic PLC functions
General characteristics of registers, Examples of Timer and counter function and industrial
applications.
System selection guidelines and networking PLCs.
Levels of industrial control, Types of networking, Network communications.
Current Status of PLC and its Industrial Applications.
Ladder logic and beyond, When ladder logic is not enough, State languages: High-level
programming for PLC, Temperature control Applications, Valve sequencing Applications,
Conveyor belt control applications, Control of a process
Prerequisites
• It is assumed that at the time of commencing this course you have a basic
knowledge of electronics and digital systems.
• It is also assumed that you have basic mathematical skills and a general
knowledge of common non-electrical physical quantities, such as temperature,
pressure, flow rate, force and torque.
