Engine Fire During Start Power-Off Landing

Starter – crank engine continuously Airspeed – 75 MPH @ 0º Flaps


Mixture – idle cut-off (70 MPH @ 40º Flaps)
Throttle – full open Fuel Selector – OFF
Fuel Selector – OFF Mixture – idle cut-off
Magnetos – OFF
Engine Power Loss: Immediately After Takeoff Flaps – 40º
Master Switch – OFF
Airspeed –75 MPH @ 0º Flaps Seatbelts – secure
(70 MPH @ 40º Flaps) Door – unlatched before touchdown
Mixture – idle cut-off
Fuel Selector – OFF Fire In Flight
Magnetos – OFF
Flaps – 40º (electrical fire)
Master Switch – OFF Master Switch – OFF
All Electrical Switches – OFF
Engine Power Loss: In-Flight Heater – OFF
Cabin Air – OFF
Airspeed: 80 MPH, Best Glide @ 0º Flaps Air Vents – closed
Best Site To Land Land as soon as possible
Checklist:
Fuel Selector – on Both (engine fire)
Primer – in and locked Establish an Emergency Descent
Magnetos – cycle Fuel Selector – OFF
Mixture – full rich Primer – in and locked
Carburetor Heat – ON Throttle – closed
Mixture – idle cut-off
Declare: Talk on 121.5; Squawk 7700 Cabin Heat – OFF
Evacuate: Follow “POWER-OFF LANDING” Procedure Cabin Air – OFF
Overhead Vents – open
Follow “POWER-OFF LANDING” procedure

Electrical Overload Spin Recovery

1.) OVER VOLTAGE light is illuminated: Throttle – idle


Master Switch – OFF, then ON Ailerons – neutral
Rudder – full opposite direction of rotation
2.) If OVER VOLTAGE light illuminates a second time: Control Wheel – full forward
Rudder – neutral when rotation stops
Electrical Load – reduce Control Wheel – as required to smoothly regain
Land as soon as practical level flight attitude

Alternator Failure Carburetor Icing

If the ammeter indicates a continuous discharge rate in Carburetor Heat – ON


flight, the alternator is not supplying power to the Mixture – adjust for maximum engine smoothness
system and should be shut down.
Engine Roughness
Alternator Switch – OFF
Electrical Load – reduce Carburetor Heat – ON
Land as soon as practical If roughness continues:
Carburetor Heat – OFF
Mixture – adjust for maximum smoothness
Fuel Selector – Switch Tanks
Primer – in and locked
Magnetos – cycle
Engine Gauges – check for abnormal
indications

Low Oil Pressure

Land as soon as possible
