• Working Student – obtained his degree in
medicine in 1780 at the Frederick
Alexander University in Erlangen
• During his time, disease was viewed as
invader to the body which used large
quantities or high doses of chemicals were

1. Aconitum napellus (Monkshood)
- member of the Ranunculaceae family.
Contains the alkaloid aconitine
- mother tincture of whole plant is used to
prepare for remedies for the effects of
fear, facial neuralgia and sore throats and
colds
2. Allium cepa (Onion)
- member of the Liliaceae
- mother tincture prepared from plants
freshly gathered in July and August. Used
extensively in the treatment of common
colds and related symptoms
3. Arnica montana (Leopard’s Bane)
- widely used remedy for the treatment of
bruising and contusions and in cases of
mental and physical shock
 4. Apis mellifica (Honeybee)
- used as a remedy in the treatment of
insect stings, sunburn and generally to
ease burning and stinging pains
- whole bee is used in the preparation of
the mother tincture
5. Atropa belladonna
(Belladonna, Deadly Nightshade)
- found throughout Europe
- Solanaceae family
- its black berries are extremely poisonous
and contain the alkaloid atropine as a
major CNS stimulant
- it is used in homeopathic remedies for
earache, neuralgia, headache, spasms, and
to control chicken pox and measles
6. Berberis vulgaris (Barberry)
- from the Berberidaceae family
- tinctures are used primarily for the
treatment of renal colic.
7. Bryonia dioica, B. alba (White Bryony)
- a hedgegrow plant with many varieties. It
was one of the original remedies proved
by Hahnemann
- mother tincture is prepared from the
root of the plant and its potencies are said
to be effective for cough, colds, and
muscular pain
8. Calcium carbonate (Carbonate of lime)
- an insoluble white powder occurring
throughout nature
- Hahnemann used oyster shells as his
source
- used for cramps, acne rosacea and
control of menstrual bleeding in young
girls
9. Calcium fluoride (Fluorspar)
- this mineral is widely used in toothpaste
to prevent dental carries. It is used

and catarrh.
10. Calcium sulphide (Hepar suphuris)
- the homeopathic preparation is obtained
by burning finely powdered oyster shells
with an equal part of flowers of Sulphur
- as one of the original homeopathic
remedies, it has been used in the
treatment of boils and abscesses and is
claimed to be effective for upper
respiratory tract infections
11. Calendula officinalis (Marigold)
- whole plant is used in the mother
tincture and is applied topically for sores
and wounds in basic first aid
12. Cephaelis ipecacuanha, C. acuminate
(Ipecac)
- used homeopathically as a remedy for
nausea and morning sickness in pregnancy
- has also been applied for nose bleeds
and in treatment of depression
- mother tincture from the dried root of
the plant contains a number of alkaloids
13. Chamoemelum nobile [Anthemis nobilis]
(Chamomile)
- one of the original 26 remedies favoured
in Hehnemann’s book
- used in the relief of nausea and migraine
and to ease teething pains in young infants
14. Cinchona spp. (Peruvian bark)
-an extract from the bark of the
quinaquina tree, the principal alkaloid is
quinine
-its application as a herbal remedy in the
treatment of malaria dates back many
centuries
-it was observations of the effect of this
drug which led Hahnemann to establish
the principle of homeopathy
 -it used today as a curative for digestive
disorders during convalescence

- said to be useful in the homeopathic
treatment of circulatory disorders, cramp
and stomach pains

- an original homeopathic remedy which
has been applied for treatment of

the tincture which has been found to be
effective for coughs due to upper

-one of the original Hahnemann remedies
favoured for treatment of dyspepsia
-mother tincture is derived from the
crushed spores of the plant
-is claimed to be effective in digestive
imbalances originating from emotional
