Spring, 2018
Headlines
They tell me Spring is almost here. As we write this, it does not seem like it
is but it has to come eventually right? :)
We have some great things planned for April to June. Some of the
highlights are:
1. An evening program promising to be fun and messy.
2. Messy programs that are outside.
3. Twin Time will continue to happen right through to June.
4. Lots of programs that families like to attend are going to continue.

In addition to these, we have extended our Saturday hours to continue until June 16th. We will still
be open from 10am to 2pm.

Our Annual Book sale will be happening on July 1st, in front of our building. If you have books to
donate or want to pick up some new books for home, plan to drop by.

Our hours of operation will remain the same until the end of June. That means that the downtown
Centre will be open from 9 to 3 every Tuesday and Wednesday until June27th.

June also finds us holding our Annual General Meeting. We are always interested in having new
Board members join us. If you would like to find out more information about this, please contact
Laurie (780 672-0141) for more information.

We also would love to have more people join our cleaning committee. If this is something that
interests you, please call Daneille (780 672-0141).

Enjoy the Spring!

Triple P - Positive Parenting Program
HOW TO BOOST KIDS’ CONFIDENCE
AND COPE WITH DISAPPOINTMENT

It’s natural to want to keep your children

safe – to protect them with a layer of bubble
wrap may appeal to some parents. But you
can’t shield them from every hurt and
disappointment. What you can do though, is
help them learn to cope. They’ll be better off if
you give them the skills to bounce back after a
challenge and to deal with their emotions.

You can start by letting them know that feeling stressed, upset or angry is healthy and normal. Help
them understand that feelings like this will pass.

Your child might be facing something that’s making them feel anxious, such as a sports day at
school. They might even try to avoid it. Encourage them to step up to the challenge. If they’ve got
your support, they are more likely to rise to the occasion.

And if they do come home disappointed, let them know that’s okay, too. Your child will learn that
distressing events happen and they can get over them.

Remember that you are a role model for your kids. They’ll have hope if they see you talking your
problems through and moving forward again. They’ll grow up knowing that challenges can be
overcome and disappointment can be resolved.

For more information on this and other

parenting topics, please talk to a FRC
staff or visit the Triple P website:

Triple P - for Divorced or Separated families

You’re divorced or separated. Your child is caught in the middle. You may have problems with your
extended family, your new partner or your ex. Holidays and birthdays cause arguments. You may be
concerned about your finances. And you’re worried about the impact this is all having on your child’s
behaviour and emotions. If any of this sounds familiar, Family Transitions Triple P can help!
Call April at 780-672-0141 or email a.mccorquindale@camrosefrc.com for more information.

Resources for Families - Ages and Stages Questionnaires and
Social Emotional Questionnaires
Are you curious about your child's development?
The first six years of a child's life are extremely important to their development and
while each child develops at their own unique pace, we can sometimes find
ourselves wondering, is my child's development on track?
We offer the Ages and Stages Questionnaire for parents to use to give themselves a
‘snapshot’ of their child’s development. The engaging questionnaires are interactive
and promote positive, developmentally appropriate play.

What Is the Ages and Stages Questionnaire?

A simple and fun questionnaire designed with specific questions based on a child's development in
the following areas:
·Fine Motor ·Problem Solving ·Communication ·Personal-Social ·Gross Motor

What Is the Ages and Stages Questionnaire-SE?

The Ages and Stages SE asks specific questions based on the child's social/emotional development
in the following areas:
·Self Regulation ·Compliance ·Communication ·Adaptive Functioning
·Autonomy ·Affective interaction with people

Why should I do a questionnaire?

· Learn what to expect from your child at different
…developmental stages
· Learn fun and new activities to engage in with your child
· Learn when and where to receive support to ensure your
…child meets their developmental milestones

When can I start using the questionnaire with my child?

· The questionnaires range from 2 months to 5 years of age.
· It is recommended that a questionnaire be completed one or two times a year; unless there is a
particular area of concern that you want to track. Activity Sheets are also available to support
healthy development and growth in specific areas of development throughout the year.
Where can I get and complete a questionnaire?
· Please ask a staff member to help you, they will determine the correct
questionnaire to use as well as answer any questions you may have.
· You can complete the questionnaire in the comfort of your own home;
or use our Indoor Playground/Discovery Room and resources. Our toy
lending library is also available to take home different toys geared
towards the different developmental stages.
