FABRICATION AND TESTING OF AUTOMATIC PLANT SPRINKLER USING
MICROCONTROLLER
Adviser: MS. EUFE P. MADARIAGA

This research aimed to fabricate and test the automatic plant sprinkler using a

microcontroller. It also focused on determining functionality and soil moisturizing effect of the

automatic plant sprinkler. Moreover, it was also done to determine the cost advantage of the

system.

This research employed experimental set up that focused on the performance of the water

system. The system is composed of microcontroller and the soil moisture sensor for the reading of

the soil moisture percentage, relay switch and solenoid valve for the automation of water system

and the control of water flow and LCD to view the reading and the responses of the devices.

Certain limits and standards for the reading of the soil moisture level was determined based

from the series of testing. For the soil moisture level, the following were the calibrations: 0-22%

(dry), 22-30% (saturated/moist), and 30% and above (flooded). If the soil moisture level is dry

and saturated, the solenoid valves and the relay switch will turn on causing the water flow to the

plants. If the soil moisture level is flooded, the solenoid and the relay switch will turn off. The

financial cost of the whole system was also done and it turned to be Php. 3,397.00.

From the testing and the data gathered it can be concluded that the water system for a

garden is more efficient and convenient in automatic operation. It was also concluded that the

system is financially viable.
