Fun Date Ideas

Here’s a secret. As girls, we often don’t care how expensive a date is. In fact, sometimes we feel bad if we
know you are spending a lot of money on us. What we do care about is knowing you actually planned something. It
makes us feel like the date was important to you. It can be hard to come up with ideas, so here’s a few to get you
started.

1. T-shirt Tye Dye

a. Dye the shirts then have some ice cream, or make dessert
(much cooler).
2. Mini golfing
a. Black Light Mini Golfing is really cool
3. Make cookies than give them away to strangers.
a. Save some for yourself too!
b. Dollar theater is a good option for afterwards
4. Progressive dinner
a. Eat one part of the meal one place, then move somewhere
else, apartment, park, etc.
5. Reading to children at a hospital.
6. Knitting hats, easy Y-serve activity, etc.
a. Combine with making or buying dinner or something like that.
7. Making ceramics and painting them
a. This can be kind of expensive
8. Going to Jump On It
a. Use the 2 for 1 calendar coupons
9. Rock Climbing
a. Again, more expensive
10. Any BYU Comedy Group
a. Divine Comedy is especially good, because you have an
opportunity to talk and play games in line.
11. D.I. Date
a. Good for a group date, you can have a competition for who can
find the most ridiculous item for a certain price.
b. Or, you can pick out clothes for each other, and make each
other wear them in public during the date.
12. Picnics make GREAT dates. You can organize games in the
park and such.
a. You can feed ducks if there is a pond.
b. You can do this after swimming.
i. If you are at the pool, make sure to have water games
prepared, swimming around just because can get boring.
13. S’mores and Bonfire activity.
a. Group date is best for this.
i. Unless you are seriously dating and looking for some
romantic time by the fire. Oooh la la!
14. Cave exploring
a. Be careful to pick a fairly easy cave, especially if you are not
familiar with spelunking practices.
15. Paint Ideas (all of these would go well with some sort of dessert
afterwards).
a. Splatter paint with darts and balloons. (Think Princess Diaries)
b. Finger painting pictures
c. Face Painting would be pretty cool, then going to a sports
event.
16. Making dinner together.
a. This can be combined with almost any of the above ideas. A
dollar movie also works well or playing games works too.
17. Bowling
a. Combine this with the D.I. Idea for a fun twist.
b. Skittles Bowling
i. You close your eyes and pick a skittle. Different colors are
assigned different tasks.
1. Bowling backwards
2. Granny bowling
3. Blind bowling
4. Piggy Back Bowling
5. Your date chooses option
18. Sledding
a. Combine with hot chocolate afterwards.
 i. This is a good opportunity to get those strong, masculine
arms around your lady friend. Ooh la la!
19. Ice Skating or Roller Skating
a. Also, combine with hot chocolate for maximum affect.
b. She can’t ice skate? I guess you are gonna have to help her.
Go get ‘em, tiger! (I’m super funny)
20. Drive-in Movie
a. Truck beds are especially desirable for viewing. Couch in the
back would be ideal, or a bean bag, or something like that.
Blankets and treats are also good to have on this date. This
puts a twist on the traditional movie date.
21. Making a children’s book
a. This could be fun on a group date. You gather lots of coloring
materials, then each couple makes a book. You read them to
the group at the end. For extra fun, decide on a theme in the
beginning, and see how everybody takes and runs with it.
22. Pumpkin carving
a. Yes, fairly traditional for October, but nonetheless, it’s a fun
one.
23. Hike to hot springs and bring picnic stuff in back packs
a. This is a date that will take a considerable amount of time. Plan
for that. Also, you could make the picnic a surprise.
24. Corn Maze or Haunted House
a. Again, traditional, but effective.
25. Laser tag
a. More expensive, but super fun.
26. Flash Light Easter Egg Hunt
a. Have someone hide the Easter Eggs then use flashlights to find
them. Whoever finds the most wins!
27. Dancing
a. Depends on the girl and the guy going. Also, if you aren’t super
experienced, or she isn’t, or both. Make sure it is a beginner’s
class, or it could be frustrating... and awkward.
b. Swing Dancing could be especially fun.
 c. Go to folk dance rec nights (Clayton is awesome)
28. Go Carts
a. More expensive, but fun.
29. Hike the Y
a. Go BYU. Yeah.
30. Making Christmas Ornaments
31. Going Caroling... in a group.
32. Making Christmas treats
33. Decorating Cookies for various holidays
a. Option to have cookies pre-baked, but it could be fun making
them together as well.
i. Play games while they are cooling.
34. Plays and musicals or other performances are always a good
option.
a. Make sure she likes them first.
35. Learn how to sew a teddy bear or something like that. It could
be kind of fun.
36. Frozen Yogurt or Ice cream is always a viable option.
37. Making your own ice cream
What you'll need:
 1 tablespoon sugar
 1/2 cup milk or half & half
 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
 6 tablespoons rock salt
 1 pint-size plastic food storage bag (e.g., Ziploc)
 1 gallon-size plastic food storage bag
 Ice cubes
How to make it:
1. Fill the large bag half full of ice, and add the rock salt. Seal the bag.
2. Put milk, vanilla, and sugar into the small bag, and seal it.
3. Place the small bag inside the large one, and seal it again carefully.
4. Shake until the mixture is ice cream, which takes about 5 minutes.
5. Wipe off the top of the small bag, then open it carefully. Enjoy!

38. Make your own blizzards.

a. Try different, cool toppings.
39. Smoothie night! Try different combinations of fruit to find the
perfect smoothie recipe.
 a. Not too expensive if you do it as a group date, and have small
Dixie cup size for each smoothie.
40. Various Sporting Activities
a. Volleyball, Frisbee, Frisbee Golf, Kickball, Four Square, Pig or
Horse etc.
41. Games Ideas
a. Making your own clay/play doh then using it to play cranium or
a game like that.
b. Making your own Scattergories Category cards and playing with
them
c. Ultimate Spoons
d. Board games around
i. Or go to D.I. together and pick one
e. Werewolf
i. If you have a big group
42. Going to a shooting range
a. Expensive
43. Foreign Culture night
a. Pick a specific country, either go out for that type of food, or
make it together, then watch a movie from that country.
44. Star themed dates
a. Learn about specific constellations that are visible in the sky
and then go out and find them. Dessert afterwards.
b. Go to a planetarium, the one in the ESC isn’t very expensive, I
think.
45. MoA
a. Learn about the specific exhibit featured at the MoA before
going so you can appreciate the art more, then go!
46. Bean Museum
a. Do the scavenger hunt they have already made there. Compete
with another couple to finish first.
