The Jouberts
Dereck and Beverly Joubert are from Botswana. They are husband and wife and they make films.
They also write books, reports, and articles for National Geographic magazine. They want people to
understand how important African wildlife is. They also believe we need to return large areas of land
to nature and the wild.
One project they work on is the Big Cats Initiative. The Initiative works to save 7 different kinds of
big cats in 27 countries. Some big cats, like cheetahs, lions, and tigers, are endangered. These animals
lose more of their habitat every year. People are another problem. Some people poach big cats. Some
also die because of humans. That’s why the Jouberts’ films, books, and articles are very important.
They bring the message of conservation to many different kinds of people around the world.
