1 Safety Notes

Before opening the device, disconnect device from mains power EN
supply by pulling the power cable.
DANGER

1.1 Liability
Device and accessories have been carefully inspected at the factory
before shipping. However, the manufacturer is only liable for safety and
reliability as well as functionality if all inspections and repairs have been
performed by authorized technicians and if the device and the
accessories are used only as intended.

WARNING
All maintenance and repair tasks as well as any modifications are to
be performed only by personnel or technicians authorized by the
manufacturer. The power supply has to be installed in compliance
with DIN/IEC. WARNING

An authorized service technician has to inspect and service the device


every two years to ensure the safety and functionality of the device. If the
service interval is not adhered to, the manufacturer does not assume any
liability for the functional safety of the device.
Authorized service technicians are always trained and certified only by
the manufacturer.
The manufacturer is not liable for direct or consequential damage and
the warranty is null and void if:
• the device or the accessories are improperly used, prepared or
maintained;
• the instructions and rules in the manual are not adhered to;
• the device or the accessories are improperly used, prepared, or
maintained,
• non-authorized persons perform repairs, adjustments, or alterations
on the device or accessories;
• the prescribed inspection and maintenance schedule is not adhered to.
The service and maintenance of the device and its accessories have to be
carried out as per instructions to ensure the safe operation of the device.
Test and check function and completeness after every service or
maintenance activity to ensure the safety of the patient and
user/operator are not affected or diminished in any way. New products
as well as repaired products must be prepared and tested according to
the manual instructions prior to use.

1.2 Certification/Seal
The operator of the device has to receive a certificate from the service
technician stating the type and scope of the performed service or
maintenance tasks. This certificate has to list the date of the service or
maintenance task as well as the company and signature. Please use the
maintenance and checklist enclosed in back of the service manual.
After the repair work is concluded, a service seal will be attached to the
device by the authorized service technician.

Environmental Conditions Please familiarize yourself with the safety notes listed in the enclosed
device manual as well as local safety rules and regulations before EN
commencing any work.
• The ambient temperature has to be between 10° C and 40° C.
• Relative humidity has to be between 30 and 75%.
• Install the device on a level surface and in a dry environment.
• Before starting up the device, make sure that the installation area is
free of materials subject to or the cause of electrostatic electricity, e.g.,
floor coverings.

2.1 Technical/Professional Requirements


All service tasks such as safety inspections (SI), maintenance, and repair
work have to be performed by personnel trained and authorized by LUT
GMBH.
The following are required:
• Knowledge of all safety-relevant rules and regulations necessary to
operate insufflation devices.
• Knowledge of the current technical developments and the software
version.
• Knowledge of electro-technical and electronic devices and processes.
• Knowledge about the use of electrical test and measurement
equipment.
• Good mechanical skills.
• LUT GMBH service technician certificate.

2.2 Tools and Test Equipment

Disconnect device from mains power supply.


DANGER
You need a crosstip (Phillips) screwdriver size 2 to open the device.
Follow the steps as depicted in Fig. 3-6-1 Sequence when opening the
device 16.0070R.M1 page 8:
1. On the upper section of the case (1) unscrew the (10x) cross-recessed
screws (2).
2. Push the upper section of the case approx. 2 cm towards the back.
3. Remove upper section of case by pulling up.
Follow these steps in reverse for assembly.

Tasks EN
Two-year Maintenance Interval
An authorized service technician has to inspect and service the device in EN
appropriate intervals to ensure the safety and functionality of the unit.
The minimum service interval is two years, depending on frequency and
duration of use. If the service interval is not adhered to, the
manufacturer does not assume any liability for the functional safety of
the device.
A sticker located on the rear panel of the device will remind you of the
latest date for the next service or maintenance check. Annual Inspection
The maintenance and service tasks include the tasks of the annual
inspection (c.f. 16.0070R.M1 manual). The annual inspection thus
includes the following tests:
• Safety Test
• Basic Function Test
• Pressure Sensor Test
• Pressure Monitoring Test
• Venting Valve Test
• Max. Device Pressure Test
• Gas Flow Rate Test
Certification
Ask the service technician for a certificate after he or she has inspected
the unit or performed any service tasks. This certificate lists the type and
scope of the service as well as the date and name of the servicing
company together wit the signature of the service technician.

4.1 Safety
Test
A safety test has to be carried out by a trained technician within the
scope of the annual inspection.
Perform a visual inspection of the device. Of particular importance is that
• the fuse corresponds with the specifications indicated by the
manufacturer,
• labels and stickers on device are legible,
• the mechanical condition of the device allows for its safe use,
• the device is clean.
Perform the measure leakage currents according to DIN EN 60601-1/IEC
60601-1.
Perform the measurement of the protective conductor resistance in
accordance with DIN EN 60601-1. The PE resistance is measured with the
power cable connected. The maximum value is 0.2 Ω.
Perform the measurement of the insulation resistance with 500-700 V
DC. The minimum value is 50 MΩ. The measurement of voltage stability
should not be performed using high voltage.
As an alternative, perform safety test according to DIN VDE 0751 Section 1.

4.2 Condition of Front Panel and


Case
EN
Check front plate and case for any damage. Check for function and safety EN
impairments. Check control panel, display, and LEDs for proper function
and undamaged condition.

4.3 Cable
Condition
Any cables suspected of being damaged or flawed in any way (e.g.,
insufficient insulation, breaks, malfunctioning contacts, etc.) are to be
replaced.

4.4 Condition of Electronic


Boards
To ensure the safety of the device, replace any boards showing corrosion
or other damage at contact or soldering points.

4.5 Checking the High Pressure Unit HPU

• Gas inlet filter GIF
• High pressure sensor HPS
• High pressure regulator HPR
• High pressure heating HPH
• High pressure safety valve HSV

The gas inlet filter (2) may be plugged or soiled due to unclean gas or gas Soiling
supply residues. This type of soiling, however, cannot be detected EN
externally.
Heavy soiling is especially noticeable during higher flow rates and results
in the actual gas flow falling short of the nominal gas flow during active
insufflation.
If cleaning the surface of the gas inlet filter does not yield any
improvement, the gas supply connection (1) has to be replaced
completely (see chapter 6.1 Gas Supply Connection
Disassembly/Assembly, page 35).
Make sure to exchange the gas supply connection US with a gas supply
connection for house gas when connection to a house gas supply. All
other device functions apply as described above.

The gas supply connection has to be removed in order to be able to check Gas supply connection seal
the seal (5) (see chapter 6.1 Gas Supply Connection
Disassembly/Assembly, page 35).
When inserting the new gas supply connection, make sure to insert the
anti-twist stop (4) properly!

Follow these steps to check the function of the high pressure sensor (2):
1. The device is open and switched on. A gas bottle (pressure >50 bar) is
connected and open.
2. The pressure monitor displays a supply pressure of > 40 bar.
3. While device is switched on and the gas bottle is connected and
opened, pull plug connector (4) of the high pressure sensor off the
PCU board (3).
4. The display has to show the following: Gas Supply?
The pressure monitor displays a pressure of < 15 bar.
Reconnect plug connector (4) to PCU board (3).
5. This successfully concludes the high pressure sensor inspection.
Adjustment Replacing the high pressure unit HPU or PCU board.

1. Remove the tube from the HPU outlet (pinch the plastic ring and pull
off tube) and connect a T adapter with venting valve and 0-7 bar
manometer.
2. Open the gas supply line. A short hissing sound after the gas supply is
opened for the first time is acceptable.
3. Screw adjustment screw (2) into device and thereby increase the
pressure until the high pressure safety valve is triggered (1) (clearly
audible hissing sound). The reached pressure must amount to
3.5 bar ± 0.5 bar.
4. Screw adjustment screw (2) into the other direction (out off device)
until reaching a pressure of 2.8 bar. The high pressure safety valve (1)
must close again (no hissing sound).
5. Set the specified working pressure as described in chapter 4.9
Checking High-Pressure Regulator HPR at the HPU 03, page 14.
If the indicated pressure values are not reached even after repeating the Adjustment
check, the HP unit must be replaced.

Do not adjust the high-pressure unit HPU 03 as long as its value is within
the tolerance range of 1.5 … 2.5 bar but only check it instead. EN

Discharge the pressure before removing a tube from the HPU.


WARNING
1. Remove the tube (2) from the HPU outlet (pinch the plastic ring and
pull off tube) and connect a T adapter with venting valve and 0-7 bar
manometer.
2. Connect the device to a gas bottle (pressure > 40 bar) and open the
bottle.
3. Relieve tube pressure at the additionally connected venting valve.
A stable end value of 1.5 to 2.5 bar has to be reached.

The outlet value drops with an increasing temperature (e.g.


long operation time) and has to be adjusted if necessary.
NOTE
Remove the test resources and reinsert the tube or continue with 4.9.1
Checking the HPU 3 for Leaks, page 15.
• Use the adjustment screw (3) at the high pressure regulator in case
values deviate from the tolerance range.
If this is not possible,
• Replace the high pressure unit HPU 03.

1. Connect a gas bottle with 0-70 bar manometer to gas supply


connection at rear of device.
2. Briefly open and then close the gas bottle.
After 10 minutes, the pressure at the 70 bar manometer should not have
dropped more than 5 bar.

• Check gas supply connection (O-ring). Adjustment

The high pressure heating is not monitored by the software.


Leave the device switched on for approx. 15 minutes.
Use your fingers to feel whether the metal block (6) (adapter 01 for
HPM) has become slightly warm.
If the metal block is not warm, check the SMD fuse (8) on the PCU board.
The fuse can be removed with a pointed pair of pliers or a pair of
tweezers.

Disconnect device from mains power supply.

Adjustment If the fuse is intact and the block is still not warm to the touch, the heater
(3) and/or the LPU have to be replaced (see 6.9 Disassembly/Assembly
of Pneumatic Unit LPU, page 46).
When installing the heater (3), make sure it is placed completely on the
insulating foil (5). Attach heater (3) with the fastening screw (4) and a
plastic insulating bush.

1. Switch device off.


2. Connect a manometer (1) and an air-filled syringe (3) to the tube
and T adapter (4) to the insufflation tube.
3. Use the syringe to generate a pressure of 50 mm Hg.
4. Clamp off (2) the tube at 50 mm Hg.
Within 30 seconds, the pressure at the manometer may not have
dropped more 2 mm Hg.
• Check the tube at the fluid sensor (1) and the low pressure unit (2) Adjustment
and replace if necessary.

1. Set the following values at the device:


Nominal pressure = 15 mm Hg
Nominal flow = 3 l/min
Venting system in user menu = ON
2. Connect a tube an air-filled syringe to the insufflation tube
connection (Fig. 4-12-1).
3. Use the syringe to slowly generate a pressure of 15 mm Hg.
4. Slowly increase the pressure to 21 mm Hg and then press the
Start/Stop key.
5. A warning sound is emitted and "Overpressure" is displayed.
6. Select a gas flow > of 5 l/min.
7. After max. 5 seconds, the venting system will be activated (depends
on the time and pressure threshold set in the user menu).
8. The venting system reduces the pressure, acoustic alarm and warning
message Overpressure are deactivated.
9. Press the Start/Stop key and remove the testing tools and auxiliary
measurement resources.

4.13 Testing the Occlusion Warning

1. Connect an insufflation tube with attached Veress cannula and close
the Veress cannula. EN
2. Start insufflation with the Start/Stop key.
3. A warning sound is emitted after 5 seconds and "Occlusion" is
displayed. The accoustic warning signal can be deactivated in the user
menu.
4. Open the Veress cannula and the warnings stop.
5. Stop insufflation with the Start/Stop key.
• Check to make sure the Veress cannula functions properly. Adjustment
• Replace the LPU.

4.14 Testing the Gas Heating


1. Attach a heating tube to the gas heating connection.
2. Gas Heating OK is displayed. The tube is prewarmed.
3. Pull the plug of the gas heating.
4. Remove heating tube.
5. Switch device off.
• Test with a different heating tube. Adjustment
• Replace HPL board or cable leading to HPL.
• Replace 16.0070R.M1 IOM board.
• Perform a test with the test box T200:

component or part or if you are unsure about whether a component or
part is functioning properly.

Always use an antistatic (ESD) mat and cuff when replacing
electronic modules, components, or parts.
NOTE
A list of available spare parts is included in the back of this manual in
chapter 7 Spare Parts List page 53. The following describes how to
replace these components. Always perform all safety and function tests
after replacing a component or part.

The gas supply connection consists of the following:

The component has to be replaced in case of defective, leaking pressure
joints, flow-diminishing filter deposits, and as necessary due to the
specific application.
1. Use a SW 24 fork wrench to loosen the screw connection (3).

When inserting the new gas supply connection, make sure to insert
the anti-twist stop properly!

If the power supply and/or the fuses fail or malfunction repeatedly, the
components have to be replaced (see Fig. 6-3-1 Power supply elements EN
page 38).

2. Check the fuse of the power supply (1).
3. The power supply can be removed after the high pressure unit HPU 03
has been uninstalled (c.f. 6.2 High Pressure Unit HPU page 36).
4. Use a SW 5.5 socket wrench to loosen the four fastening
nuts/washers (3) and pull out the
cover plate (4).
5. Detach the plugs (2) and (6) from the power supply board.
6. Remove the 2 large stay bolts (5), unscrew the
2 nuts/washers from the small stay bolts (7) and remove the power
supply by pulling up.
7. Follow these steps in reverse for assembly.
The following tests have to be performed after installing a new power
supply:
• Connect to mains power supply and turn device on.
• Use a multimeter to check the voltage of the power supply at the input
plug (2) (100-240 V~) and at the output plug (6) (24 V=).
• Perform the safety test as described in chapter 4.1 Safety Test page 11.

unacceptable flow reduction, the pneumatic unit LPU has to be replaced
together with the PCU board.

Disconnect device from mains power supply.


DANGER
1. Open the device as described in chapter 3.6 Opening the Device
page 8.
2. Pull cable plug connector (2) parallel and towards the top from the
PCU board.
3. Pull cables/plug connectors item (3) (to heater) and item (4) (to
pressure sensor) towards the side and thus remove both.
4. Remove the high pressure tube (5) and the low pressure tube (8).
5. Use a SW 7 socket wrench to remove the four fastening nuts (6) as
well as the washers and lift out the entire unit by pulling up.
6. Follow these steps in reverse for assembly.
The following tests have to be performed after installing a new LPU:
• Software update.
• Testing the pneumatic unit for leaks.
• Turn on device and perform function test.
• Safety test (see 4.1 Safety Test page 9).

EN If the gas tube heating malfunctions and/or the jack is damaged (1), the
jack and the HPL board have to be replaced completely.
When a heating board type HPL 03 is used in exchange for a HPL 03
board, both stay bolts have to be removed from the HPL 03 board EN
using a SW 5.5 socket wrench and then screwed on to the threaded bolts
(4). It is then possible to install the HPL 03 board in the same manner as
the HPL 03 board.

Disconnect device from mains power supply.


DANGER
1. Open the device as described in chapter 3.6 Opening the Device
page 8.
2. With your hand, unscrew the fastening ring (2) of the gas heating
jack (1) located at the front of the device.
3. Inside of the device, use a SW 5.5 socket wrench to unscrew the two
fastening nuts (6) from the board and remove the toothed washers.
4. Remove the HPL board and the jack by pulling towards inside of
device.
5. Remove the plug connectors/cable (3) from the HPL board.
6. Follow these steps in reverse for assembly.
The following tests have to be performed after installing a new HPL
board:
• Turn on device and perform function test of tube heating.
• Safety test (see 4.1 Safety Test page 9).

The electrical connection of the fluid sensor is integrated into the
adapter between insufflation tube connection and pneumatic unit.
The entire adapter has to be replaced.

2. Remove the cable/plug connectors of the connection cable (1) from
the PCU board.
3. Detach the tube connections leading to the gas outlet and the
pneumatic unit.
Follow these steps in reverse for assembly.

In case of malfunction or damage of the control keys and/or the


displays, replace the IOM board.
(Fig. 6-13-1).
The IOM board and the LCD display are linked.
Neither one can be replaced independently.

Disconnect device from mains power supply.

2. Remove the plug connectors/cables (4), (5), (6).
3. Remove the 5x fastening screws and toothed washers(3) from the
IOM board (1).
4. Remove the IOM board together with the display board by pulling
towards the back.
5. Follow these steps in reverse for assembly.

In case of brightness differences of the actual display windows Brightness Balance Setting
(right/left), adjust the brightness setting.
1. Start the open device without connecting the gas supply.
2. The device depicts the message Gas Supply?
3. All segments of the actual value display are being used.
4. Use a small screwdriver (2) to set the same brightness level for the
left and the right display window.
5. (Turn to the right = brighter on right, turn to the left =brighter on left)
