objective
To study how to create a rocket that would stay in air for the
longest time

Introduction
When we mention about rocket, people will usually think
it’s the vehicle that is used in launches to space. However,
according to nasa, there are various meaning to the word
rocket. It can means an engine type or vehicle that uses
engine.

China is the first country which made the first real rockets
around the first century A.D. These realistic rockets were
made for fireworks and Military also used for the warfare
in wars. In the next 700 year, the rocket was developed to
be stronger and bigger by scientists. Many of these rockets
were used for wars. In addition, in 1969, the United States
launched the first men to settle on the moon using a
Saturn V rocket.

Newton’s third law of motion is the law of action and

reaction. There is always an equal and opposite force for
every pair of action. Thus, if the first object exerts a
certain amount of force on the second, the second will also
exerts the same magnitude of force (opposite in direction)
on the first object. Another term that is important to know
is Momentum. Momentum is the quantity of motion of a
moving object (mass in motion). it’s always a vector
quantity. The equation for momentum is mass multiplied
by velocity; its unit is kg⋅m/s.
materials
2 Soda bottle (1.2 L)                       Scissors
Duct tape                                        Ruler
Cardboard                                       Plastic bag
Paint                                               Rope
Marker

Set up
procedure

Rocket
1. Prepare all the materials.
2. Cut one of the bottle in half, keep
the side where the cap is.
3. Stick it to the bottom of another
bottle.
4. Measure the size for the fins in
which the measurement that we used
is 49 for length.
5. Cut them out (3 fins in total) and
decorate them.
6. Stick the fins to the side of the
bottle using duct tape (equally
separated).
7. Stick the parachute to the bottle.

Parachute

1. Take a slight plastic bag and cut out the

top to create the bad with length of 32 cm
and width of 23 cm.
2. Cut out rope into 4 equal line (34 cm)
3. Tape ropes into the bag with 4 equal
separated distance.
4. On the other end of rope, make a knot
and stick to rocket head.
Data and result
Bottle:                                Parachute:
Long: 49 cm                    Length: 32 cm
  Round: 26cm                   Width: 23 cm

Rope’s length: 34
Fins (kind of a right trapezoid shape):
left leg: 11.5               right leg: 12.5
upper base: 7.2             lower base 12.5

analysis of data

For the rocket, we used two bottles to made the base of it. The
purpose was one was for the container of water pressure and
one was for the attachment of "wings". To made it maintain in
the air longer, we also made the parachute. After many trials,
we finally found the suitable parachute that would help rocker
maintain in air longer.

measurement of wings
(we made 3 of them)
conclusion

We are expecting that our rocket will stay longest in the air
because we try to make it as light as possible. We also think
that our measurement of parachute  which is 32 cm x 23 cm
will supports the rocket in order for it to stay in the air for a
large amount of time.

recommendation

Some recommendations are:

     -   Having more time to do the rocket in class because it’s
hard to meet up outside class time
     -   Try to make the fins as strong as possible because we
don’t know where the rocket will land when it’s launched.
Therefore, with strong fins, we can prevent it from breaking
and redoing our rocket.
     -   Having more tryouts in launching the rocket because we
might not be able to build the rocket to our utmost ability if
we only get one chance to see our mistake.
