Rawal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Faridabad

B.Tech. 6th Semester Civil Engineering (F Scheme)
Pre University Examination
Dsign of Concrete Structures-II (CE-302-F)
Time: 3 hours Maximum Marks: 100
Note: Question 1 is compulsory and students have to attempt at
least five questions in total, at least one question from each section.

Q1 (a) What is residual stress?

(b) What does 4 and 6 imply for bolts of grade 4.6?
(c) What are prying forces?
(d) What is shear lag?
(e)What is ineslastic buckling? 4x5

Section (A)
Q. 2. (a) How will you calculate the shear force, bending moment and
torsional moment at point P at angle ϕ from one support of curved
beam? 10
(b)What are the basic assumptions made in the design of continuous
beam? 10

Q 3. Design an interior panel of size 6.6 m x 6.6 m of a flat slab floor

system on 460 mm square columns with square head of 1 m size. The
floor system supports a design service load of 7.75 KN/m². Use M20
grade of concrete and Fe 415 grade steel. 20
Section (B)
Q.4 Design a combined rectangular footing for two columns A and B, (b) How will you analyse two way rectangular slab fixed on all four
carrying loads of 500 KN and 700 KN respectively. Column A is 300 edges by any one method of analysis? 10

mm x 300 mm in size and column B is 400 mm x 400 mm in size. The

centre to centre spacing of the columns is 3.4 metres. The SBC of soil is
150 N/m². Use M 20 concrete and Fe 415 steel. 20
Q.5 A RC column, 400 mm x 400 mm carrying a load of 600 KN is
supported on three piles 400 mm x 400 mm in section. The centre to
centre distance between the piles is 1.5 m. Design a suitable pile cap.
Use M 20 & Fe 415. 20
Section (C)
Q.6 Determine the various stresses set up at mid span in a pretensioned
beam 250 mm x 500 mm, subjected to an initial prestress of 1500 KN
and a uniformly distributed superimposed load of 5 KN/m over a span of
15 m. Assume total loss of prestress as 12 %. And eccentricity of
prestress at midspan is 100 mm. 20

Q.7 Explain briefly the substitute frame method. Explain portal and
cantilever method for analyzing a building frame subjected to horizontal
forces. 20

Section (D)
Q.8 A rectangular slab 3.5 m x 5 m in size, simply supported at the
edges. The slab is expected to carry a service live load of 3 KN/ m²
and a floor finishing load of 1 KN/ m². Use M 20 concrete and Fe 415
steel. Design the slab if (a) it is isotropically reinforced (b) it is
orthogonally reinforced with μ = 0.75. 20

Q.9. (a) Define yield line theory. State the assumptions made in yield
line theory. Explain the methods of analysis as per yield line theory. 20
