Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Socrative is superb for all students. Because it can be accessed anywhere as long as there is a network
connection or Wi-Fi. This gives the students who could not make it to class that day the ability to work from
home along with the class. For students who do better hearing the problem, when it is teacher-paced this
allows the teacher to say the questions aloud for those students who need to hear the problem as well as
seeing it. This also means our visual learners can work at their pace to an extent. It can also allow shy
students to get involved as well and help reduce a monopolized review from the more dominant students. All
students are able to use this response tool because it can be accessed from any preferred device as long as it
has internet connection, so for example if a student works better with an iPad that student can have the
option of using an iPad when participating with the class.

Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
A lesson will be taught on correctly use frequently confused words, like too/to/two or they’re/there/their.
After the lesson Socrative will be a fun way to assess how much the students learned, this will also give the
instructor an idea of what needs to be reviewed again with the students.

Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☐ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☒ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☐ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Student Response and Assessment Tools
Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:
The students will need a device that has Wi-Fi or network connection. This activity will be teacher-paced so
the teacher will need a device she can work from. The teacher will be reading the sentence aloud and asking
the students questions. The students will then have to use their devices to choose the best answers. This
activity will last 20 minutes, this will allow 2 minutes per question so they students will have time to think
about their responses.

Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):

☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☒ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10): N/A

Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?

☒ Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not?
Yes, this will help the students see which words are used correctly in the sentence. Immediately after
submitting it.

Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?

After this activity the students will draw a picture then write a story about the picture using the SRT activity
words correctly.

How will the data be used? As a result of this activity the teacher will know which words the students are
still confused about. The teacher will use this data. The teacher will create an activity for the selected words
that are still misunderstood, and more practice will be completed using those words. The idea here is to help
the students master the word understanding. The students will not be graded on their understanding. The
data can be used to share with the parents to monitor the students progress. The information will not be
shared with the class. The data will be solely for the teachers’ discretion.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.
Some personal learning goals for this activity is how well the students respond to a lesson about frequently
confused words. I have not tried using a response system before, so this will allow me to learn the tool as well
as assess student understanding. I hope to learn how well the students respond to a lesson. I hope this will
help students learn the use of technology as well as challenging themselves with the given questions.

Reflective Practice:
I believe this activity will impact student learning because with the data received the teacher can implement
further information about the lesson if needed. This will help the students grasp a better understanding on
the words they do not understand.
