15 Honors Sonnet

Shall I compare thy relationship to a dead bug?

Thou art more tasteless and more gruesome:

The bug will die and fall into thy coffee mug,

And will soon make many more glum.

And often trying to get away;

It’s wings and legs will learn to fly,

And no longer will any person want to stay.

Like all creatures it’s mind will no longer be sane,

And it’s shape and form will not stay the same;

Life sent her minions and its wings were slain,

And it was left to lay there in shame.

But thou art no more powerful than she,

And now you’ll always wonder, how in the world did thou come to be?

Reflection

In this sonnet I chose the famous couple Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley-Potter because I am a

big fan of the Harry Potter series and I know them best. The tone of the sonnet is negative

because I don’t like Harry and Ginny together, I believe that the whole relationship was forced

and not formed naturally, for the same reasons I also do not like Ron and Hermione together.

The poem emphasizes how lifeless and tasteless the relationship is compared to how Harry and

Ginny could be when they are not together. In this poem I only used one or two different

humorous devices, those being exaggeration and similes. As short and simple as it seems, this

poem was actually really challenging to write. I experienced what is called “writer’s block”
while writing and had to google and go to friends who are part of the Harry Potter Fandom for

inspiration. Even with the challenges I loved this activity because it gave me a chance to join

together my love of the Fandoms and school work which is amazing.
