MANUFACTURING STANDARD
FOR STAINLESS STEEL GAUGE PIPING
Material Welding
All pipes and fittings are manufactured from stainless steel sheet or plate to ASTM Welding procedures, welders and welding operators meet the requirements of
A-240 standards. Material 10 gauge (3.6 mm) and lighter will have No. 2D or better ASME Code Sec. IX. Welding procedures are carefully established and tested to
finish; material 3/16” (4.8 mm) and heaveier will have No. 1 finish. achieve full penetration welding.
Type of stainless steel shall be specified by the customer. The longitudinal welds in pipes and fittings are made either by the automatic
GTAW with or without filler metal, the automatic GMAW (spray transfer) or the
automatic plasma arc welding process. Gas backup protection is provided in all
ASTM Standards cases.
Pipe and fittings to ASTM standards A-778, A-774, A-358 HT-O and A-409 HT-O
can be supplied on request. The circumferential welds in fittings and assemblies are made by GTAW and/
or SMAW processes. Where the internal surface is not accessible for welding,
the root pass is welded from outside using GTAW while the internal surface is

CLEAN-OUT (I.D. AND N.P.S.) CLEAN-OUT (I.D. AND N.P.S.)
PLUG TYPE QUICK-OPENING TYPE
The cover of this type of clean-out is provided with snugly fitting plug. Quick opening clean-out as shown was introduced by Douglas Bros. several years
ago, and since then, thousands have been installed in Paper Mills.
The inside of the pipe, with plug in place, provides smooth bore eliminating stock
hang-up. It is ideally suited for welding at the end of the pipe-run or on elbows, providing
quick and easy access for inspection and cleaning.

METRIC CONVERSIONS

The conversion of quantities between systems of units involves a

determination of the number of significant digits to be retained. All
conversions depend upon the intended precision of the original quantity
and are rounded to the appropriate accuracy.

Pipe sizes together with applicable wall thicknesses are not shown with
metric equivalents. The SI (metric) values where included with the
customary U.S. values in this Standard are the rounded equivalents of the
U.S. values and are for reference only.

Metric units were derived utilizing the following conversion factor:
