This was a recurring theme in Jesus’ ministry. Once, while
teaching his disciples about prayer, he used the term
“bread” to speak of the inner need we have for deep
satisfaction and fulfillment. He said that we should ask
God to provide us with “daily bread”, bread that’s truly
sufficient for each challenge we may face in everyday
life. And that connection between bread and our deepest
human needs and heart hungerings was also invoked when
Jesus took a loaf of bread, blessed it, broke it and gave it
to his disciples.
In affirming that he is the “Bread of Life” Jesus is
answering a question that is vitally important to us:
“Who’s going to truly satisfy me?” His answer is, “I AM.” March 25: Palm Sunday
