l teach the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) course at the Munic
ipal Substation School organized by the ElectriCities of North Carolina.

pervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) course at the Municipal Substatio
n School organized by the ElectriCities of North Carolina. The school provides a
n opportunity to learn about the operation and basic maintenance of electric sub
stations.
The students from municipal power utilities will participate in the five day sch
ool. Topics of study range from safety in electric substations and switchyards t
o SCADA and transformer testing to maintenance testing of power equipment. ( htt

understanding of power system equipment and how to recognize and eliminate haza
rds.
"SCADA systems are one of the original Smart Grid systems. Since at least the 19
80s, SCADA systems have been providing real-time intelligence on the operational
state of the grid," said Ms. Hester. "Understanding SCADA functionality is esse
ntial to power delivery and substation operation. It's a great topic that I very
much enjoy teaching."
Ongoing training is essential to the operation and safety of the Electric Power
Grid. In this course, students will receive information that is not only valuabl
