PROBLEM BRIEF:
The Indian hotel industry has witnessed massive expansion over the recent past. As a sequence
to which, hospitality groups have been extremely conscious about the way hotels are designed.

Every five-star luxury hotel has a unique selling proposition. It could be design, facilities,
location or food but the most attractive of all is the design element.
Hotel design has always been closely associated with the tourism product. The design should be
functional, modern & responsive to the product. But the most important of all, however, is the
very acceptance -that design is a (very important) part of the whole product.
Government of India has approved 300 hotel projects nearly half of which are in luxury range.
Demand supply scenario suggests that hotel industry has great potential for investment. We,
the architects has the potential opportunities, in the field of hospitality & tourism
architecture………………… A wise man by the name of William Blake once said, "The true method
of knowledge is experiment." William could not have been more correct, particularly when it
comes to the booming, hypercompetitive hotel industry, in which knowledge constantly needs
to be tested. For best results, there are four key game changing components that hoteliers
should be mindful of when working with a design team. They are technology, materials,
luxurious appointments and signature restaurants.
Creative design is of utmost importance when establishing a new hotel, as it must not only
please the guest and provide longevity for the owner, but it needs to remain fashionable at the
same time for years to come. The design must also foresee the evolution of architecture and
interior design, features, and traveler expectations, without compromising functionality. The
need for an increased use of renewable energy resources/technologies, as well as passive
cooling/heating, and lighting/shading strategies in meeting the complex energy requirements in
hotel buildings and other facilities should be emphasized. Properly planned, designed and
operated hotel facilities offer convincing environmental and socio-cultural advantages, as well
as attractive opportunities for sustainable business.
