In my role as an instructional coach | have witnessed Jon show many of the characteristics required for being an effective administrator. He is a strong leader in his department and the school as a whole. He builds excellent relationships with students and coworkers. He has been essential to developing the new curriculum his team implemented with the state adoption of the new lowa Core Science Standards. Jon is a leader in his PLC and the building as a whole. In his role as model teacher he is responsible for curriculum writing, working with student teachers, and being a team leader in his PLC. He does a fantastic job building consensus with his department and PLC. He also works hard to build consensus among staff in his role as a model teacher. Jon builds strong relationships with his students, evident by his classroom management. | have witnessed him effectively addressing behavior issues in his class and he does so masterfully, preserving the dignity of the students while simultaneously holding them to high expectations. He also has strong relationships with those he teaches with and parents/community members. Jon has transformed his PLC by analyzing data. He has implemented several routines in his classroom to collect formative assessment data and monitor student learning that | believe will be effective for an entire staff to implement. These routines have been used by others in his department with equal success. Jon often leads our data discussions and facilitates the PLC through difficult conversations. Jon works hard at being adaptable to new situations and has shown himself to be willing to leam new strategies and techniques and implement them with fidelity in the classroom. The job of an administrator requires one to wear many hats and Jon has shown his ability to do that in our building.
