Nonfiction Response

Death penalty
1) There is not as much public support for the death penalty and many states have
decreased their numbers of people who are condemned.

2) Unlike many other articles this text if fully focused on the loss of popular support this
this penalty. It explains how many see it as cruel and unnecessary.

3) The author is trying to inform the reader.I came to this conclusion because it
constantly gave statistics and new information about the opinions of the public and
members of the supreme court.

4)The audience would be the public because it provides the opinions of the people
with power, conditions in other states and some public changes as well so it can relate
with the audience.

5)the author provides a graph with the changes of public support and opposition for the
penalty .Between the years 1990-2000, opposition has risen and support has fallen.

6)Logos is used in this article because according to the editorial board they said “Less
than half of Americans said they support the death penalty, according to the Pew
Research poll released last month”(5).”In two of the worst Dural country in Florida and
Caddo Parish in louisiana-Local prosecutors lost elections”(the Editorial Board).”In
recent dissenting opinions, three of the justice-Stephen Breyer, Ruth Bader Ginsburg,
and Sonia Sotomayor-have expressed deep misgivings about the death penalties
repeated failure”(The Editorial Board). The author provides dates and locations to his
statements.

7)People are realizing the wrong moral nature of the death penalty. According to the
editorial board it said “While that proportion has been going down for years, the loss of
the majority support is and important market, against states sanctioned killing”.Another
example would be “In some of the biggest states, death penalty systems are defunct or
collapsing”.Finally, “Even in the most death-friendly counter, public support appears to
be fading”.

8)The topic was mostly highlighting the fact that public support for the death penalty is
fading .
9)I would want to change the very little opinions of the other people who don't support
the death penalty,This change will bring more credibility to the author of this article.
10)The death penalty is proving to be unnecessary because not very many people
actually want it to be legal anymore. This is because people are wanting to repeal the
death law and the penalty is losing public support. In the article it said “Even in the most
death-friendly country, public support appears to be fading”.Most places have seen the
wrong in wanting to keep the penalty so they want to get rid of it.If the penalty loses a
lot of public support then is will eventually be removed.
