BEOWULF Outline

1. Danes build Herot (Hall of the Hart) near Grendel’s

home
Grendel doesn’t get invited to the parties

2. Grendel kills 30 men – first night he comes to kill

3. Kills men for 12 years

4. Beowulf and 14 thanes come to help (Danes) to help and

kill Grendel
Beowulf vows to kill Grendel bare-handed because
Grendel doesn’t use swords – HONOR -

5. B kills G. Rips arm off uses it as a trophy G goes

home to die All hail Beowulf!

6. Grendel’s mom is pissed. She attacks Herot in revenge

for her son’s murder. Beowulf agrees to kill her too.

7. B goes to kill “water witch” mommy. Underwater lair

– under the bubbling, boiling lake – also on fire.

8. B kills her. WITH GIANT SWORD he “finds” on wall.

B kills other sea monster who watch fight, and goes of to
make SURE G is dead. Beheads Grendel and brings back
head for trophy.
 9. 50 years later……. King of the Geats --- one of B’s
citizens steals dragon’s treasure. Dragon attacks, so
Beowulf has to fight him. Defending his country and
peeps.

Don’t help. This is my fight. So, they don’t help, and when
it gets scary, they run away.

10. Wiglaf yells at the men: We’re supposed to

protect him. He gave us so much. What the heck do
you think you’re doing???

Wiglaf helps Beowulf kill the dragon. Beowulf dies

anyway.

Thanes build monument as B asked. Wiglaf is made king

and shares treasure.
